Or will they let me know when they know ??

Target start date is 3rd Nov, but CRB has only been gone for 3 weeks and apparently takes about 6.

I am on benefits at the mo, and have to know when I am starting before I can sort anything out wrt my rent, other benefits etc.

It is starting to really stress me out because I keep thinking that I will end up without money over xmas because some one somewhere will cock something up, so the sooner I know whats going on the better.

So, shall I ring the recruitment dept or not ??

Ring them just to check all is progressing on time for 3rd November start date. It may be that you are supervised to such an extent as part of your initial induction that the actual CRB effectively isn't required immediately anyway. We are allowed to let people work in such circumstances, once the application has been submitted.

Have rung, but the girl dealing with my file isn't in today.

The bloke I spoke to has had a quick look and apparently neither of my references have been recieved back, or my signed off occupational health form.

I asked wether my target date was likely to change then, and he said he couldn't say as I really needed to speak to the lady dealing with it.

So, I have to ring back tommorow.

I just don't want to be in a position where I only have a couple of days before starting, to sort out my benefits, as I will actually have to go in and speak to them, not just ring up.

I had my interview and training course for bham mental health trust for Bank work in May/june.

I had my first shift this week.

They take AGES.

llareggub · 22/10/2008 22:34

wow, tiredemma, that is an unacceptably long time.

You need to get onto your prospective line manager for he or she to apply pressure on the HR dept to chivvy things along. CRB checks do take a while but it is much quicker than it used to be,

IllegallyBrunette · 23/10/2008 09:37

Have just rung them and am not impressed.

Basically, non of my stuff has got back yet, Occy health clearance, refs or crb check. My refs were requested on 26th Sept. My friend reckons she hasn't recieved hers though.

So, I asked if my target date was still 3rd Nov and they said no, because that day is now full. I asked her to explain as I wasn't sure what she meant, and it turns out that I have to do 2 days 9-5, induction which I'd have no problem with at all, but it isn't at the hospital that I will be working at, it is another hospital bloody miles away, and a good couple of hours away by bus.

I explained that I hadn't been told i'd have to do induction there and she said they are all held there now. She said there is a shuttle bus from local hospital to this other one which I might be ok to use as long as the driver doesn't ask to see my staff pass .

Oh and my new date for this induction is 11th Nov, dd1's birthday. I will have to be up and out of the house by god knows what time and back late so she will be having a crap birthday then. Plus my mum is at work that day.

I am so fucked off with them. If I hadn't rung them today they wouldn't of told me any of this until the last minute.

Really, speak to your prospective line manager. References can be chased and Occy Health forms can also be speeded up. Presumably you did complete it and send it back quickly?

Unfortunately large HR teams can be incredibly process driven and forget that the process has a real person at the end of it.

For an induction day they should pull out the stops to make sure that at the very least you get a staff pass that will entitle you to use the bus. Ask them, I'm sure someone can make it happen but I'd ask your line manager not the HR admin person.

IllegallyBrunette · 23/10/2008 11:44

Have solved the problem of getting there now. My dad said he will take me and collect me afterwards, which is really good of him.

Sorry, yes, I sent the forms back well within the time limit they gave.

Right, I still do not know what is going on and I am getting really pissed off.

I rang again today for an update and apprently my references still aren't back even thought they have chased them up twice.
I am now going to chase them up myself.

Anyway, I say to the girl, am I still on track to do induction on 11th and she says yes, then 2 seconds later changes her mind and says that the 11th is now full for inductionbs, but that I might be able to start my shifts on 11th, and do 2 day induction on 24th.

I explain that I am currently on benefits and am really worried that i will be asked to start with almost no notice and time to sort out benefits and all she could say was that she didn't know.

I am so worried that I will end up starting right before xmas and then sorting out benefits will be a nightmare.

ARGH

Right have chased one up and they are emailing reference later tonight. Thta is my character one.

Employment ref was assiatnt manager from a shop I worked in. Rang them only to be told that she moved to another store last week.
They give me new store number and i ring only to get cut off twice, and then told that she isn't in anyway and they weren't sure if she'd be back in this week.

They have had the ref request since end of Sept, so her moving to another store last week shouldn't make a scrap of difference.

Just tried to ring recruitment again to ask if I could perhaps supply another character ref instead, but was told quite rudely that the person i need to speak to is not available to speak to me again today

Right, recruitment have just rung me to ask what I rang for

Told them about woman moving to another store and so she has had the store number from me and is going to try and get hold of her again.

Fingers crossed she gets her and and my reference soon.

I have never understood why people withold references for a while.

Hope it all goes through pronto

IllegallyBrunette · 30/10/2008 17:10

The woman at Wilkos can't remember me emma, apparently that is why she didn't send it back.
