What jobs (outside the home) do you guys do? - and how do you find working and motherhood (after all, we are the generation who 'have it all' aparently).

mostly photography at the moment but also illustraton.

I'm not the main earner so don't have too much pressure on me. I work from home on a freelance basis.

childrenofthecornsilk · 13/10/2008 13:56

quickdrawn that sounds interesting (nosy emoticon) have you got a website?

quickdrawnandquartered · 13/10/2008 13:57

yes I'm in Ireland though.

MrsMattie · 13/10/2008 13:59

There is a huge variety on MN. That's what makes it so interesting! I was a journalist for a long time, moved into teaching, am now a SAHM but thinking about returning to teaching again.

childrenofthecornsilk · 13/10/2008 14:00

your website is fab - gorgeous pics.

quickdrawnandquartered · 13/10/2008 14:02

thanks

TequilaMockinBird · 13/10/2008 14:05

I work in Comms Engineering, its very heavily male-dominated but I love it!

I've also worked as a Recruitment Consultant and a P.A.

euromum · 13/10/2008 14:09

I'm a secretary, full-time. Work-life balance is precarious but just about works with help of fabulous creche where dd is very happy, and extremely helpful and kind dh (most of the time!). But I find the phrase 'having it all' to be a total joke - unless it means all the stress! Life is incredibly busy and we only have one dc - and if I could I would do my job AND be with dd all the time but obviously I can't. With varying degrees of seriousness, it does my head in most days.

communityclare · 13/10/2008 14:11

About to return to full time social work after long career break.

freeview15 · 13/10/2008 14:14

I've noticed you never mention what it is you do, Cornsilk.

muppetgirl · 13/10/2008 14:16

was a teacher but I couldn't cope with working and raising my 9 month (then) old son. Hats off to you girls that do this though!

I am starting a psychology conversion (to covert my degree) course as I would like to be an Ed Psych.

vonsudenfed · 13/10/2008 14:47

ex-tv producer now sahm in search of new career (any suggestions gratefully receieved).

tv's long hours and away from home a lot, so doesn't really sit with having a child under 2, so done only a few tiny bits since dd was born, even though I was earning more than dh.

But I am desperate to get back to work, as I'm in danger of caring too much about m&t group politics, but don't know as what!

Tortington · 13/10/2008 14:49

i'm a marmite tester

somedays you either love it or hate it

georgiemum · 13/10/2008 14:50

DH suggests I can be a Rollo tester.

I file my nails and post on mumsnet all day work in advertising (not nearly as nobby or exciting as it sounds) but am currently studying to get parole and do something less superficial and meaningless

It is fun but a constant juggling act

MatBackFeck · 13/10/2008 14:56

IT Compliance blah blah boring boring for an investment bank. And if we have it all, I want less of it!

Tobermory · 13/10/2008 15:01

muppetgirl, that sounds really interesting. I'm a teacher and always on the lookout for options if I ever want to jump ship.
What does the course involve? How long?

now SAHM and looking to open my own business ( probably a franchise restaurant or similar) in next 2 years, credit crunch allowing!

muppetgirl · 13/10/2008 16:16

Love both jobs.

muppetgirl · 13/10/2008 16:20

Sorry, Tobermory

here is a link to the OU website with details of the course and what's involved

Tobermory · 13/10/2008 16:23

Thanks muppetgirl, looks interesting. So youre being a SAHM while doing your training?

curlywurlycremeegg · 13/10/2008 16:27

I'm an Independent Midwife but have cut down the number of clients I take on in recent years due to DD and DS2 (and now have DC4 on the way so feel like I am never going to get back to normal!).
