What jobs (outside the home) do you guys do? - and how do you find working and motherhood (after all, we are the generation who 'have it all' aparently).

I'm a qualified Playleader for after school clubs but at the moment I work in a Dementia Care Home 36 hours per week (3 12 hour days)

TBH I hate it but think it's the job itself and I do hate working such long hours as I barely see DS for 3 days as he goes to nursery at 7.15am and is in bed when I get home But it has to be done.

I work in Event Management 4 days a week OTH, I love it!

whatsmyline · 13/10/2008 17:21

I run a vegetable seed company with DH - we both do a bit under full time hours and work it around school times & holidays. Works ok, but going away on holiday isn't really an option.

PheasantPlucker · 13/10/2008 17:25

I am the manager of a small charity, doing fund raising and organising events and other bits and bobs. I love my job.

muppetgirl · 13/10/2008 21:22

Tobermory -Yep, loving it (mummyhood) second time round and don't plan to go back to work till my youngest(11 months) is at school so this is the perfect time for me to retrain. Yes it'll take ages but then it'll be 5 years till ds 2 goes to school...

Classroom Assistant in a special school, 9.30-1.30.

janeite · 16/10/2008 18:38

I'm a teacher: not senior management but pretty "high up" in the hierarchy and with lots of different "hats". I love it and have worked full time all through , even when the girls were tiny. However, I bring a lot of work home and only really get to "switch off" in the holidays.

I'm a midwife and have a great mother in law who looks after DD when DH and I are at work.
I work 30 hours a week (2 12.5 hour shifts and 1 5 hour shift) so feel I have a fairly good work/life balance.

plus3 · 17/10/2008 16:54

I'm a nurse also, in PICU and am currently utterly despondent about it however the work life balance as picturethis just said is wonderful.

Management Consultant but currently SAHM as couldn't cope with the amount of travel and 3 young children.

Skramble · 19/10/2008 01:16

I work part-time as a *, couple of shifts a week normally weekends and some weekends away, fits in well with being a mum as I am usually there whent hey come in from school and they would probably be at MIl's anyway for a bit at the weekend.

I am also a full time student, but this is done by distance learning and a workshop once a month, can only manage these because of my fab MIL, technically my exMIL, but not fair to ex her.

Don't think I could work full time, kids couldn't go to MIL everynight, too much fr her and no childmeinders locally or after school clubs, plus they have a lot of after school activitied that I take them to, but could manage if I worked til 5-5:30.
