I start work today and have no contract and no idea about pay...

I was fine with this, but suddenly today I feel angry at the whole affair. I am only working 2 hours and being paid hourly, but how on earth can they pay me if they only have my email address? I feel like saying that I am not going until they can be sure that they can pay me.

they can't pay you without your p45. It sounds very dodgy. I would qive them the 2 hours today to find out what the deal is but they sound shambolic at best.

It cant really be dodgy, as its a uni.I am just SOOOOOO angry at the lack of organisation. Just looked at the HR departments web page and they know what they SHOULD be doing,they just cannot get their act together.

I have only had contact with the woman in charge of my department and they did say they wanted to do a formal interview, but couldn't manage to sort that out.

I have never managed to get a written contract wherever I have worked. Universities are notoriously slapdash. I am sure they will get it all sorted out within the week. Try to enjoy your first day at work and don't let it bother you.
