Oh bum I am getting an award tomorrow

I work for a huge company and my manager has just let me know I have to attend an award ceremony tomorrow and now I am petrified. And he has said I have no option but to attend and receive the award.

All managers of a certain grade and above will be there (of which I am not one).

Dont get me wrong, I am really grateful, even thrilled for the recognition - as it was a mountainous piece of work. But I dont feel confident to go to the ceremony, much less stand in front of all my superiors and receive an award.

I dont/cant powerdress to save my life. And can normally be found in mules and flowing skirts. I have planned a smart top and skirt combo and will find some tights (yeuch) from somewhere. But I so dont want to go, I am very happy to continue doing what I do from behind the scenes, where no one knows my name.

HELP!!

Ah! That's really great though! Well done.

Just wear something that you like and feel comfortable in, as that will give you more confidence. And all you have to do is get up and go and collect something. I doubt you will have to have an Oscar-winning speech ready!

(What's it for, btw?)

Well done.

Just look forward to the spread they usually put on.

I'm sure once you are there will be a friendly faces.

Absolutely, WoaA - everyone is going to be pleased for you!

BIWI - it was for putting together an awayday for 2,000 people, complete with food, entertainment and interactive activities. Normally we would use an agency, but I did it all from my little desk :-)

Well done lowfat. Don't worry about what to wear, you've got the Award for what you've achieved already, it's not like going for a job interview where they'd judge you. You've already succeeded and people will just be happy for you. Have a lovely time

Wow! That must have been an logistical nightmare. Not surprised you're getting an award.

Phew - just an update. Mt colleague has phoned to say my award is being presented at to me a conference with colleagues in attendance.

So I wont just be a little cog in amoung the big wheels, I will be with my peers. And it's two weeks away which is much better than just getting a days notice.
