Work really bad

Having had good to excellent record with company have found under different manager results for doing exactly the same have been halved and feel ambing picked on. It is increadibly demoralising as have worked hard and received recognition for the fact. Any tips?

I think for your manager to justify the changes to your record, he/she has to give specific instances.

Be really specific if you choose to challenge the records -not being funny but if you say "But I've always done it that way" it's not helpful.
But if you're saying "increased productivity by 10%" each year and that's not good enough suddenly, then I'd challenge it.

Have these results/comments on your record came out of the blue? you should've been made aware well before appraisal time if they felt you were working below par.
You say diffent managers - have there been many? This is unsettling to say the least, getting used to a new way of working, conflicting styles etc. hth

last week I was assessed (By the new manager)and all my scores were all excellent. yesterday I was assessed and the scores basically were halved although I did nothing different.

Mmm, do you normally get assessed so often? I would approach your new manager and say that you'd like the scores explained to you as you're puzzled by the halfing within a week with no reason that's apparent to you.

Has the criteria or evaluation changed?
What specifically was found in the areas you "could do better " in ?

Be as pleasant as you can (despite the circs) and challenge this calmly. Arrange a proper meeting (ie not 10 mins on the floor) to discuss and take notes. Don't worry about them thinking you're OTT just state that you want to make sure you understand properly. Explain that you feel demoralised due to (a) changes of managments (2) different grading system or whatever (3) whatever else. You'd like to sort it out as it is demotivating.
Send an email afterwards confirming what you've been told in the meeting.

Is there someone you could approach about this? Co worker who feels the same or may be able to help or someone in HR or an "old" manager you trust? hth

Hi it might not be a personal thing.

At our office we have been told that regardless of peoples performance, satisfactory is the highest rating that anyone is likely to get this year, because of the credit crunch there is not enough money for bonuses, so rather than reducing the pot which would be the sensible thing to do, they are reducing the scores.

Its very upsetting, I had my half year review and was told that I was just about scraping by and yet I am exactly the same person that I was last year, only now I am more demoralized.

Thanks, I am feeling a bit better as decided that the person who did the assessment didn't really know what they were doing.

Drather your personal opinion that the person who has done this assessment doesn't know what they are doing is all very well, and may be correct, but it doesn't change the assessment at all, it will go on your file as it is.

Tbh I would follow the advice you've been given on this thread and keep on top of this situation rather than writing it off as an incompetent manager. Records of your performance are important, they could influence things like payrises, selection for redundancy, promotion or other prospects, or may form the basis for disciplinary action. It's worth sorting it out or at the very least getting your side of the story officially on the record.
