I've just resigned. And after I put the phone down I burst into tears. I know I've made the right decision, so why do I feel so upset?
And this was only resigning to HR - I still have to speak to my old bos who I worked for for 7 years and really liked and respected. He's off sick so I have to tell him personally tomorrow. I don't know how I'm going to keep it together in that conversation.

Because that job 'was' you - defined you - in many ways, almost all of which you want to move on from but are still difficult to leave? Because this really is a move into the unknown - again, a move you've considered, and know you want to take, but still have to take a deep breath about?

Cheer up, babe. You KNOW you've done the right thing.

even when these things are well planned out, those old emotions can come and bump you on the nose. MI is right. Don't be so hard on yourself, any change (even planned) is tough. I cried when dd1 went to school in January even though i'd been bright n breezy about it to everyone else & I'm sure i'm viewed as a bit of a tough cookie.

because its a big deal. Sympathies, I remember resigning to my old bosses who I really liked and it was very sad. Right decison though!

and you've been building up to this resignation for a bit of time.......

You are right, MI, jobs can define you, and its just a little bit of your life that you are closing the door on.....BUT....you've already opened up the next door and there will be more round the corner.....

Makes it harder when you like your boss - me, personally, would laugh manically if I could hand in my notice now... (as I shall laugh when I announce my pregnancy) Ha Ha
