Returning to work part time in January, when should they advertise my job share?

After lengthy negotiations it has been agreed I'll return to work three days a week on the 7th January on the condition that they can find someone to do the other tw days a week. My manager doesn't seem keen on this arrangement (i.e. me going back three days a week) but HR felt it was appropriate.

My question is when would you except them to advertise for my job share person if they need them in post for January? They haven't advertised yet and I would have thought by mid October if they want to get someone what with Christmas and all, what do you think?

Depends what type of job it is and what the market is like, how long their recruitment procedure is, all those things. There's still time yet though, particularly as for lots of people jobs are hard to come by, especially part time ones.

Have you asked your manager when they are planning to advertise?

Lets see - advert out for two weeks, week or ten days to get interview set up, few days maybe a week faffing about making a decision and getting an acceptance then four weeks notice for that person - I would say that you're right and mid October is the time. They could do it a bit later but not much

Thanks guys, the job is within a Local Authority so I imagine that they'll be people who want it because of the perceived security and the pension etc.My concern is that they generally faff like billy-o about recruiting and the post needs to be CRB which can take forever! TBH I haven't asked my manager, at the meeting we had they agreed to get it advertised in good time but wouldn't be drawn on when. I'm feeling anxious in case they are going to delay advertising and then say we could't get anyone so you have to come back full time, prob being paranoid though
