How long to 'pay back' maternity pay?

Hi all!

So at my employers if I want to avoid maternity pay I have to work three months full time when I go back. Assuming this is the same with most jobs - can anyone tell me that if I go back part time (say exactly half the hours), will I have to work six months? Or does it depend?

i can't remember, what i owuld do tho is get in touch with citizens advice bureau as they should be able to give you up-to-date advice ((((((((((()))))))

what i do remember is that when i did go back after ml, i went back ft but missed lo too much so i wrote a letter and stated when i wanted to work and (just as important if you have employers like mine were ) when you don't want to work; for instance, weekends and bank holidays ...

Lucy I am just about to do this too. Check your contract - mine says 6 months for part-time but doesn't specify what sort of part time, i.e. it looks like if I went back 3 days a week I'd still have to go for 6 months! Have you still got holiday to take? Where I work taking your holiday counts as 'returning to work' as I'm no longer on ML, so I'm using up the holiday to make it so I have to actually physically go to work for less time.

not sure about holiday - think I decided to take it as pay. :-( Definitely will ask CAB.

hmmph don't ask hr until you are sure of your facts - they might well be lovely people but will be biased towards the company imhe/imho. get your facts straight from the cab first then ask hr xx
