PND and not returning to work after ML. Will I get sick pay?

I work for the council, due back in Jan, my maternity pay has now ran out and I think I may be suffering from PND (although could be extreme tiredness and stress)

Will I get sick pay from Jan even if I don't return to work for one day?

i think to get that you would need to ask yo0ur doc to sign you off but i do think you could get it

This happened to me after dd2. My gp signed me off with PND and i got sick pay as normal. I didn't return to work for a few months I worked for the NHS at the time. Have you been to see your GP yet? PND does respond to treatment, and I hate to think of anyone suffering .

Im going to make an appointment tomorrow. I don't want to take medecine though as I am breastfeeding and already completely paranoid about my lo. Going back to work is an added stress and I am the family breadwinner

If you're signed off as not being fit to work because of PND it's the same as any other illness, so you will get whatever sick pay you would normally get. If you work for the council that's probably quite a good sick pay scheme I would imagine.

TBH, my PND lasted a long time - dd2 was almost 2 before I felt better. However, this was largely due to factors such as dd2 having reflux and crying non-stop,dd1 reacting badly to being a big sis and also because I live miles away from my family (so I had zero support).

I gradually noticed that the good days were starting to outweigh the bad. Just try to be kind to yourself and to rest as much as you can. I was far too bothered about keeping the house tidy;etc and I wish I had been more laid back.

It will pass, even if at times you doubt it.

thanks sibling, i get no sleep ever, my mum's coming over in a few days. my family lives miles away too and my dh works nights,
we were trying to sell our house too but someone's just made a (shit) offer, so at least i don't have to keep it tidy anymore!

Yeah, the lack of sleep is a huge factor in PND, I think. You sound as though you need support - am so glad your mum is coming.
It's hard when you are isolated, but with time - and rest - you will come through the other side. x
