Am I being paranoid?

I like my job and always volunteer to help out in various areas. Trouble is, I am often turned down. Usually people say it's because it's not my job and should be done by someone else but I secretly worry that it's really because they think my work is awful and would rather someone else did it and are trying to spare my feelings.

Surely if my work was good they'd all be clamouring for me? . I just want to do well.

Maybe they are trying not to see you overloaded with work that you don't need to do. It shows they care.

Do you get regular feedback on your work? If you don't why not ask for some? You should have some sort of appraisal or chance to discuss any development needs. This might put your mind at rest.
