If you are required to stay away overnight in your job do you get paid extra?

I work for an event management company. If we travel and stay overnight we get paid an overnight allowance. This is because our client gets billed for any staff we provide on site.

We have now been told in a few weeks we are to spend a Friday night away from home for a company dinner and presentation (we are in a merger process) we will not be home till mid day Saturday.

We are beimg told this is compulsary, but we are not getting paid extra for it.

I feel this is unreasonable.

We never get paid anything extra for being away - no overtime or allowance.

If this is a one off and they are paying for food and rooms I think it is reasonable

your contract probably states that from time to time you will be required to work in a different location or evenings/weekends

Company piss up conference and presentation I would never be paid extra for, they see it as something people will want to do.

Not currently working, but when I was I was never paid anything extra, as it was understood to be part of my job. Obviously food, hotel etc paid by company.

Whenever dh has to travel for work, it is the same. Dinner costs, international calls etc (if not at hotel) is paid for and then expensed.

No, not paid extra. but we are allowed to take time off at other times so I tend to claw back the time in that way, take an extra day off midweek or similar.

No DP doesn't, just expenses, but he says he gets 'paid' in the free hotel bar, expensive dinner with clients and sleeping in a double bed without one or two toddlers in it, hehe.

Hehe AmIWhatAndWhy - I've noticed dh being quite eager to sleep over lately. Surely it can't have anything to do with a 5-month old waking up all the time at home now, could it??
