Limited company owners - know anything about NI contributions?

We pa ourselves a small wage - £450 a month - and take the rest in dividends. We don't pay tax or NI on the wages. I asked our accountant how this affects our state pension and they said we were fine - but how can we be if we arent contributing NI?

justjules - not butting out cos it is stressing me, but because it sounds like a bit more than just a straightforward yes/no, and without full facts I don't want to mislead you. Seriously though - your accountant should explain everything to your dh (and you if your dh requests it). If the set up is on the accountant's advice I wouldn't really expect you to pay much for such explanations as they should have fully explain what they were doing and why, preferably in writing.

overthemill - yes (does it show )
