I need to go into hospital to get a cyst removed. I've had a ltter from GP saying that the hospital has asked them to do some blood tests, smear, urine test etc. The appointment has been made for me, by the gp, for firday at 1.00pm.

You need to check your contract to see how many hours you are given for appointments but by law you must be given some time for hospital, doctors and dental appointments. I get 2 hours and only work part-time so don't let them tell you that you will need to make hours up etc. Try checking direct gov website

I only work 11-2!
I could do 9.30-12.30, as I don't do my usual job on a Firday anyway - i normally do stock control but not on fridays, so it wouldn't actually make much difference

Well as long as it doesn't bother you then put this forward I can't see them having a problem as you are doing the same hours but if you did want to do 11-2 they cannot deny you and hour or hour and a half!

There is no law saying you must be given time off for hospital/other medical appointments specifically, but most employers would either let you change hours as you are requesting or would count this as being 'off sick'. Have you got any reason to believe your request would be refused? Seems very unreasonable of them if so!
