Anyone else felt imposter syndrome the day before starting a new job...?

Start a new job tomorrow, it's not a world changer but is for an organisation that helps others similar to my last. Was so chuffed to get it as the competition was significant, but it's different to my last role and I literally will have to learn it from scratch. Anxiety is rocketing....! Anyone else?

It’s normal to be nervous about starting a new job. Your new employer clearly thinks you’re up to it or they wouldn’t have hired you. Get an early night and a good nights sleep and go to work tomorrow and be fabulous

I'm with you start a new role on monday promotion but in a totally different area of the service (same organisation totally different part) and have major imposter at syndrome! I think will feel better when I start but the anticipation is flooring me! No real advice but solidarity

Yes, always - to be honest I think it's more unusual not to.

Thanks 😊 I'm hoping in a couple of weeks I'll be laughing at my anxiety (hoping)

Ah thanks 😊 solidarity to you too! It's strange isn't it in previous role, confident and doing things as routine but then I have to remind myself I was not like that at the beginning! I was just as terrified! The confidence came later. I think although we can tell ourselves all these logical things perhaps it literally comes down to human fear of the unknown?

Trying to keep telling myself this... I got the call last week, competition was stiff, I think I went into shock, although thanked them profusely and agreed start date. Lady laughed I think she was expecting me to ask lots of initial questions but frankly I was too overwhelmed. We'll obviously cover things tomorrow but hopefully she didn't think I was a bit odd 😅 the interview was long and in depth so we did already cover quite a bit.

Keep telling yourself that they would not have hired you if you couldn't do the job.

No-one expects you to be an expert on the first day.

Don't be afraid to ask 'silly questions'. Often it takes a new person coming in to ask the questions everyone else has been afraid to ask because they think everyone else knows the answer!

Take time to listen and learn before making any big changes to ways of working.

Congratulations on the new job (especially in the current market!). I started a new job back in my old profession, a year ago after a 12 year break...so i totally understand the anxiety. You will smash it I'm sure...have a great first day tomorrow!

I’ve been in my job for many years and I STILL get imposter syndrome 🤣

It doesn’t sound like anxiety to me. It sounds a completely normal and rational feeling.

Thanks- I do understand what you mean; I think because I've had anxiety issues in the past I'm likening it to that

Good luck!! I started a new job last month, the owner of the business (my boss) is someone I’ve known for years as they were a supplier for my company in my old job.

still had absolute anxiety and nerves the day I turned up for my first day. One month in it’s getting better but it is a shock when you’ve been somewhere else got along time and know the role inside out!!
just try and remember deep breaths, it’ll pass and you’re more than capable. Congrats
