What is the best, non-bitchy department or employer you have ever worked for?

I work for NHS band 6. Love my job but the culture is very bitchy. I do try to turn a blind eye and get on with my job but the negativity is very wearing and makes me anxious at times.
I am jot adverse to a career pivot. I have only ever worked in public services ( former teacher). Are all work places a cess pit of politics or has anyone ever worked somewhere that is actually civilised?

No. God no! It's rife everywhere in my opinion. After all it's a group of random people put together to do a job that wouldn't necessarily meet in a different environment.

Admittedly, you do get some people that are bullies. It's just like school sometimes; but the kids are bigger, know more words and don't do cute things 😁

My current job in a school office. I work with a really lovely team (and we’re all pretty good at our jobs which helps!)

Elite sport was always brilliant for me, in three different organisations (until I got a new female CEO in the last one and it all went to shit).

I’m NHS too & I work in an un- bitchy environment. I think it’s probably the team you’re in rather than the organisation.

I agree with the team....i do love my role though so will keep looking.

The best employer I ever worked for was myself. Wonderful woman.

I’ve never worked anywhere bitchy, I don’t think. Everyone’s really nice. I wfh, though, so maybe that helps.

I've been really, really lucky 🤗 I've had two truly hideous bosses, both of them almost certainly personality disordered. One malicious colleague and one backstabbing hypocrite. A few weirdos. Two fantastic male bosses, two fantastic female ones, several perfectly nice ones of both sexes. Best teams I ever worked in were all female but all my teams bar one became close friends, as did some of my clients.

I've only just noticed that my fantastic male bosses were both called Mike and the fantastic women were both Jan. Maybe that's the secret 😂

I'm not going to say where but mine is good. It is possible and I know I'm lucky!

I’ve been lucky too but I do also think some credit goes to the SMT. Where I work now has over 100 employees and in 10 years I’ve only once come across someone who seemed to be trying to get “one up” on me (and even she was quite nice really underneath). People sometimes think our CEO is a bit of a joke as he’s not really a specialist in the field but I think he deserves credit for setting such a positive, non bitchy, supportive environment

I’ve worked in lovely school offices too - but one school HR dept wasn’t great.

Myself. The only minor conflict is getting the cat off the desk towards feeding time when deadline is looming.

I've had several female bosses, all bitchy/competitive show offs. I went freelance because I just cannot be arsed with it all.

Happily-married men who just get on with the actual job are the best but practically impossible to find

The bitchyness is getting me down atm. It makes me feel amxious and I underperform when anxious.
There is racism too which i find intolerable.

I knew you were going to say NHS by the title. I am band 7 in a community team and often get dragged into shit. One person will moan to me about the other and vice versa. I really don't give a shit and just want to get on with a job that is hard enough anyway.

That sounds tough. I work in the NHS and we have a lot of anti-racism training and we would definitely be encouraged to raise it (easier said than done I know!).

My job involves working from different locations on different days and a fair amount of wfh. I think this really helps because you tend to only see people 1 or 2 days a week, and even then you are in and out to appointments, so less time to get on each other's nerves. The downside is sometimes it can be a bit lonely/boring if you are based on your own some days, but that can be a blessing too.
