HELP!! Medical Report from doctor has been requested

My DP has been off work for the past four weeks with continued back pain. His employers had sent him a letter asking him to attend a disciplinary but due to the pain in his back he could not attend. The employers then came out to the house. He has now received a letter from Head Office to say that they are requesting a medical report from his GP. He has already attended for private treatment (arranged through his employers medical insurance) and a report was compiled by a back surgeon on his condition. Should this report not be sufficient or can they make him get another one from his GP. Any advice greatly appreciated.

They can't force him as such, but if they are requesting it he will not do himself any favours refusing, and if he is receiving any occupational sick pay he will jeopardise that as well.

It's probably a case of them following a procedure whereby at this stage normally a GP report would be requested. As it happens they have one already from someone else, so I would suggest he telephones HR or whoever sent the letter, explains this, and asks whether or not the report they already have is sufficient.
