No reply from hiring manager after I confirmed I wanted the job and now I’m panicking.

I went on a factory tour yesterday and at the end, they basically said “Whoever is in, write your name down, we’ll email you the details and induction is on Monday.” I had to discuss it with DH first and they said the deadline was 12pm today so I had to email the hiring manager before 12pm to get on this Mondays induction, otherwise you have to do the one next Monday if you want it, which would work better for us anyway tbh.

So I emailed her at 6pm last night to confirm I wanted it and have heard nothing back. I obviously didn’t expect a response last night but I really thought I’d have heard from her today! I’ve tried ringing her several times, but it just rings out! I’m hopefully just overreacting but I’m terrified now that I mentioned that I’d missed the cutoff for booking my son into the wraparound care at his school for next week, I’d have to make the next induction day instead. So my overanxious brain is now paranoid that she’s binned me off for being too problematic already 😩

I’m freaking out because we NEED me to get this job. Hopefully she’s just off sick or something (because if she was off today, why would they have told me to email her by 12pm today?!). I don’t know what to do! I tried calling the main phone number but none of the options seems to fit and there doesn’t seem to be a general reception type option.

Is it an agency type position?

Hellometime · 08/05/2026 15:59

Breathe Op. Lots of factories finish at noon Friday. She may have been unexpectedly off ill.
Do you know enough info to turn up Monday? Then if they say you aren’t down so you can’t do it you say no problem put me down for next week. But probably will say ok stay.

I have absolutely no idea. I don’t really know what that means to be honest. I’ve been a SAHM for 15yrs, since I was 19 so basically everything is new to me.

This one doesn’t, it’s a chicken factory and is open all day every day as far as I’m aware! Its opening hours on Google are even listed as 24hrs. Although the office staff probably have more reasonable hours. Although saying that, this lady emailed me at 6.30am the other day and responded immediately to me when I replied minutes later!

I can’t just turn up on Monday though as it starts at 8am and I don’t have the childcare to start next week!

I still haven’t heard anything and it’s really stressing me out 😣 I don’t know what to do, I’m half contemplating actually going up there but I don’t know if that’s maybe a step too far?! I’ve tried ringing but no-one ever answers the phone!

Surely they can’t just expect people to jump straight into a full time job with a weekends notice?? Even desperate people have busy lives that need rearranging 😩

I would start looking for other job options. They might get back to you, they might not but it all sounds a bit chaotic.

Gizlotsmum · 12/05/2026 07:01

How many people were on the tour? How many positions? It might be enough people signed up by 12 so they aren’t taking on any more. Maybe they do need people who can just drop everything, in which case it probably isn’t the job for you.

There were 4 of us. They explained that they’re currently expanding so taking on loads of staff. There wasn’t any indication of how many positions were available, but the listing is still live on Indeed and on their own website.

I don’t have any more options. I’ve been job hunting since September and not had a single interview. I need a full time job by next month so I can pay the mortgage when that’s up for renewal in October.

My friend said to me yesterday that I should ‘Keep my options open’ and I never usually feel violent but my god I so wanted to reach through the phone and slap him. If I had options I wouldn’t be choosing to go sort and pack raw chicken parts 💀

Just pop in.

TheCompactPussycat · 12/05/2026 07:16

It's more likely that she was busy on Friday arranging everything for yesterday's induction, and busy doing the induction yesterday.

Gizlotsmum · 12/05/2026 07:23

In that case it won’t hurt to pop in. You won’t be the only one that couldn’t sort everything at short notice. Maybe try calling today and use a best fit option, I am sure they could redirect you/ give you a direct line ( was there a direct line number in her email signature?)

Yes there’s a mobile number in her email sig. but it just rings out. I tried the HR option on the main factory number and that rang out too! All the other options were about sales and shipping etc.

The cutoff for booking my son into the schools wraparound care is Thursday afternoon so I need an answer before then 🤞🏼

Omg finally!! I had one last go at phoning her before I actually went up there and she answered! It’s all sorted, I start 8am Monday. She sounded surprised when I said I’d emailed her a couple of times!

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 12/05/2026 09:30

Thank you! She said they try and spread out the induction over a few days as it’s a lot of info to take in, so we have the morning in the classroom and the afternoon in the factory.

They'll have a high turnover of staff I'm sure you'll get a start at some point.
