I’ve name changed for this as I don’t want it linked to my other many thousands of posts.

My DC is part of a football academy, and over the last few years as they’ve gone up, I’ve become really interested in the workings of football clubs/leagues/tournaments from a financial perspective.

I’m currently a CFO at a property company on £175k, but could drop to £150k as a Group FC, Divisional FD type role to pivot into working in the football industry.

I started off as an auditor, moved into industry as a manager after 8 years. Now, 25 years in I’ve got lots of experience in turnarounds, transformation, startup, but no football!

I’ve seen and applied online for a couple of decent roles at the FA and Sky, I didn’t even get a response :-(

Does anyone here work at a senior level in football and can suggest the best route in for someone like me, please?

Edited for typo

Deloitte has a large sports consulting arm - they’d probably snap you up and you could build contacts from there

Thank you for the insight, I’m surprised that would be an option at my level, given I have no sports experience.

Having left practice 15 years ago, I still remember the joy of not having to complete timesheets lol

If that’s the best way in I’d be willing to give it a go though, thanks for advising as I didn’t even know this existed!

Oh god nothing is worth being forced to account for every 6 min of your time and berated for accurately recording, under recording and over recoding! NOTHING!

Have you looked at the careers of people in those jobs on LinkedIn? May give you an idea. You may find you have connections with someone who can put you in touch. You could also look for recruiters and headhunters working in that area and speak to them but of course helps to have someone to point you in the right direction first!

@Wellthisisdifficulttell me about it 😩😩😩 If I had to I’d suck it up for a maximum of 4 years. I’m early 40’s so would hope to have got into football proper by 45 tops.

@Myannafrom what I can see most seem to have gone in at Finance analyst level and worked up, so I should have been on this about 15 years ago!

Saying that, a few seem to have come in from left field, which gives me hope. I’ve also been looking at sports agencies and companies adjacent like IMG and CAA to see if it would be possible to go that route as an alternative. Thanks everyone for your insights.
