Hallo all - I am here, ready to steal ideas network

SexyMilf - we are in the same boat. I am stuck in a never ending Training project atm.

Can we do a background summary so we know who to call on for various things? I can start:

Brief Summary of me: Late comer to HR, did CIPD in 2000 when working for a consultancy - very fast track to Generalist. They would not let me loose on a client until I had done the Law elective. Then Trainer and NVQ assessor as I followed DP when he changed jobs and needed something to do. Led to HR Officer stand alone for a Manufacturing start up. My Dream job. Now back from Mat Leave and specialising with my Mat Cover doing my old job Perm. I Manage a huge team of 2 recruiting for more.

That's me work wise.

llareggub · 14/06/2008 00:11

Me...

Was HR Manager for 5 years, now work as a change specialist. Prior to that various HR Officer roles. Public sector. I currently work part-time.

Pinkjenny · 14/06/2008 09:43

Me...

Started 8 years ago as a VERY enthusiastic HR Assistant, climbed the proverbial ladder and have done stints as Resourcing Manager (Recruitment is not my thing) and ER Manager ( loved it, but got a leeetle bit depressing at times), all experience in retail and leisure environments, bar current interim contract at financial services company as Group HR and L&D Manager.

Would I choose HR as a career if I could go back? possibly not. Not many people subscribe to my ethos of HR doing far too much firefighting and handholding, and taking responsibility away from the line. My boss describes it as 'running around with blue lights on our heads'.

Look forward to arguing debating with you all, and getting some reality checks every now and again when people are really annoying challenging me!

flowerybeanbag · 14/06/2008 19:29

Me....

I have done time in the private and voluntary sectors, first role ended up as a standalone after 3 months when my boss left because she couldn't hack it, so I had a baptism of fire into HR .

Have also been HR Officer, HR Adviser, HR Manager, been project manager for various big long-term projects - couple of major restructurings and HRIS implementation and design two of the biggest. Have done a bit of coaching with senior managers and have moonlighted on the side with a consultancy business I started with a friend in 2003. Haven't worked in a 'proper' job for one organisation for a few years now. I realise I don't miss it when I meet my ex colleagues and they tell me about the same issues still cropping up.

Best thing about my job has been having an influence on how an organisation is run, changing the way people work and saving voluntary sector organisations huge wadges of cash.

See my new website now up and running again after a brief hiccup. I am so proud of it I am going to start a thread announcing it.

Having been on mat leave for a while I need some new clients so you must all start pointing people in my direction purlease.

Hello

A fellow HR bod here too. Did my IPM (as it was called in the dark ages) in 1992, and haven't looked back.

Mostly generalist with a bit of recruiting in Canada for 18 months before children.

Now work part time as HR Manager for a small company and love it.

I'll join too please! Currently on mat leave from Resourcing Manager role with large UK Retail Bank - previously HR Business Partner with charity / HRBP and also a HR Projects' Manager for an International Bank. Did my CIPD in 1997 and a MA in HR Management in 1998. 20+ years' HR experience, starting as HR Assistant straight from school with a UK retailer in the 80s! (I'm a young ish 40 year old!!)

Now getting redundancy from current role at end of my mat leave in 2009 and hope to set up as freelance assessor/coach when my DS is older (he's 4 months). Can't say I love current job - too much in terms of office politics so very pleased to be jumping ship

Definitely be good to have a support group! Enjoying working in Resourcing as opposed to mainstream HR!

callmeovercautious · 14/06/2008 20:13

Flowery, it crashed again when I looked at it in Explorer.

flowerybeanbag · 14/06/2008 20:15

Sorry to bring bad news

X posts with you Surrygirl - hello and to sexonlegs - I need to read back up before I post

ceebee74 · 14/06/2008 20:18

Hi can I join?

I currently work as an HR Advisor in the NHS. Started work in HR 8 years ago as an HR Assistant and have worked my way up since then. 12 months ago, my job changed from predominantly recruitment which I loved to a generalist role with no recruitment - wasn't so keen at first as it was recruitment that made me want to get into HR in the first place but I am beginning to feel more comfortable in the generalist role and, dare I say, enjoying it!! Have always worked for the public sector aswell.

Flowery - what a lovely idea this is! Will check out your website in a mo!

flowerybeanbag · 14/06/2008 20:20

callme can you do me a huge huge favour?

Can you try www.face2facehr.org.uk instead of dot com? Try that and browse through a couple of pages and see if that works. It's a saga because of having to change hosting but BT has .org.uk and .com is elsewhere. SHouldn't make any difference but...

If you could let me know that would be fab.
