thanks greyskull!

ROFL at ceebee not knowing what browser you are using.

When you want to go on the internet, you must open a browser. It's most likely Internet Explorer - if it's got a blue 'e' icon with a yellow swishy thing through it , it's Internet Explorer.

Flowery, I managed to view your website fine from your link Looks great.

Hi to all the other HR bods. What a lovely idea this is.

Callme, where do you live?

flowerybeanbag · 14/06/2008 20:39

Ok, apparently neither the .com or the .org.uk version are working on some Internet Explorer browsers.

BT promise DH they should be able to sort this out tomorrow.

In the meantime, could everyone who is here do me a favour. COuld you all try it using this link, browse through a bit, then report back, telling me which browser you are using and if it's INternet Explorer, which version.

For ceebee and other technophobes, to find out what version it is, go to Help, then scroll down to About INternet Explorer, and it will say what version.

You are all stars, thank you so much.

FB, I can view the website perfectly well and we have version 7. HTH

flowerybeanbag · 14/06/2008 20:53

thanks for that

OP posts:
ceebee74 · 14/06/2008 20:54

Flowery - Internet Explorer version 7 here too (have just asked DH ) and it works fine.

Nappyzoneneedsanewname · 14/06/2008 20:56

I was Snr HR Asst. leading a small team in L govt - advisory then more contracts and the likes..... got soooooo boring and intense with staff cuts and new systems demanding more out of the tiny amount of HR staff left it was gettign ridiculous so after DS on mat leave i set up Nappyzone and sought out a lesser stressful job within the same council - best ting i ever did! Some days i miss HR but these are few and far between.

Perhaps when my brain grows back i will wander back in....

flowerybeanbag · 14/06/2008 20:56

Thanks ceebee Aren't DHs handy?

callmeovercautious · 14/06/2008 21:02

Good grief, I go and put the BBQ on in the rain and you lot all get chatty. You must all be Personnel managers

Sexonlegs - I am in Cambridgeshire near to Flowerybeanbag.

Flowery - it crashed from the most recent link. I even looked at different pages in case it was a bug on one page. What a pain for you. The referal we discussed has not got the mail yet so he won't be experiencing the pain with you.

Ceebee - I am not quite as bad as you but having just been upgraded to Office 2007 at work I am spending half my day trying not to throw the mouse at the screen. Thank goodness I also have a laptop - I have spent 2 weeks sitting elsewhere so I can use my laptop instead

llareggub · 14/06/2008 21:04

Hi Flowery, your site looks great. Very professional.

On the technical side, I've tried it with wyzo and safari using a Mac (leopard operating system) and it is all working fine and dandy.

Good to see everyone congregating here. Does anyone use the CIPD community forum?

flowerybeanbag · 14/06/2008 21:05

callme what version of IE have you got? DH's work have version 6 and it doesn't work. Everyone else has version 7 and it seems fine. Are you 6?

OP posts:
llareggub · 14/06/2008 21:08

Actually, on that note, what DO you think of the CIPD? I did (what was then) the IPD back in 1999 and apart from the odd wander through their website and PM, I don't see much benefit from my membership. I upgraded in 2002 to MCIPD and have pondered going for FCIPD but it all seems a bit pointless. Anyone active at local branch level?

flowerybeanbag · 14/06/2008 21:08

Hi llareggub, thanks for that

Have to share, DH has just asked if he can be postmaster for my website. Apparently he's always fancied being postmaster...

OP posts:
Sexonlegs · 14/06/2008 21:11

Llare, I use the CIPD forum loads. I have to say I find it really useful. I haven't bothered upgrading - I am still graduate status!

FB, bless your dh

llareggub · 14/06/2008 21:11

Completely unrelated but your husband's desire to be a postmaster reminds me of the time my husband and I were invited to attend a convention of toastmasters. You had to be there really, but it was the most unintentionally funniest thing that has every happened to me.

flowerybeanbag · 14/06/2008 21:11

I've never been active in the CIPD I have to say, and just have the odd browse through website and PM like you llareggub.

But did I see a leaflet pop through my letterbox with my membership renewal saying we get discounts and stuff now?

OP posts:
ceebee74 · 14/06/2008 21:19

I rarely go on the CIPD website either as I have forgotten my log-in and have never got round to chasing it up. I do try and read PM if I get the chance.

Am also still graduate CIPD but my manager made noises about me upgrading to MCIPD when I returned from my mat leave and tbh, the work involved was the last thing on my mind at the time! That was over a year ago now and she hasn't mentioned it since so it can't have been that important to her

callmeovercautious · 14/06/2008 22:19

Flowery - yep on V6. DP is disgusted with my work as apparently it is really naff Techy alert!

CIPD - work pay for my membership therefore I keep renewing. The most useful thing about it so far has been to give my Mat leave cover my log in so she could check up on legal stuff - she is not qualified but very experienced. Same Lady still doing my old job (and very well, hate to say that though ).

I don't use the forums as I have never got them to post under a nickname, I don't want to use my full name just in case. There you go - now you know why I am called "callmeovercautious"

Pinkjenny · 15/06/2008 16:07

I've just cancelled my CIPD membership as, ahem, Dh is a HRBP (!) and we were getting two of everything. People often ask me whether we just talk about HR all the time. Er... no.

callmeovercautious · 17/06/2008 21:46

Ok so what is an HRBP? An HR Business Partner? If so I would love to see the JD. We have a management consultant in who has recommended we go that route. TBH I can't see what the difference is, between us we seem to have the skills set. Is it just really a cultural attitude?

Excuse my ignorance

Reamhar · 17/06/2008 21:57

Count me in. Hmmm CIPD website, I remember that they have one...does that count?

I also have a stack of People Management somewhere in the house. I remember vaguely that I used to read then when I worked as a HR Manager.

Two Children under 5 and a downshift into administration and I now use them as dust collectors.

I have CIPD and the best of intentions to go for MCIPD, but the best-ness of my intentions and the desire to apply never seem to match up.

Or maybe I'm just a lazy baggage....

flowerybeanbag · 17/06/2008 22:13

Callme - CIPD factsheet on business partnering, have a shufty

Welcome Reamhar!

I have some news - someone called me yesterday from a company that do publications for small and medium sized businesses. Apparently someone on MN recommended they check my website out and call me as someone who might want to do some 'expert' writing for an employment publication. Apparently the deal is you do the writing for free, but you get free publicity among SMEs, which is just what I need!

Isn't MN amazing?!

If it was any of you, thank you!

OP posts:
callmeovercautious · 17/06/2008 23:22

Thanks Flowery. I am just lazy - I could have checked that myself WOuld be interested to know the name of the Company - I have dealt with one myself and it was a bit dodgy sounding, we did not get much back for the outlay in time. Just wanted to warn you. Check them out first. You have my email. It is nice to have a good referal though!

Welcome Reamhar. You sound just like a friend of mine from CIPD days! I would not call 2 under 5 and an admin job downshifting though

Top tip - De-register for PM, it took me about 3 phone calls to get them to stop sending them but it is much more environmentally friendly and much less of a dust trap! You can log into thier website with your CIPD log on and view anything you want.

JackieKizzi123 · 18/06/2008 07:05

I'd like to join! Im fairly new to HR.... I completed my Certificate in Personnel Practice 2 years ago whilst being a PA to Commercial Director & HR Director, then went on mat leave / made redundant and then started as a HR Officer/Coordinator role PT since Sept last year. Really enjoying the challenges and looking to learn as much as I can. Would love to do CIPD 2yr but planning baby no2 so that won't happen for a while!

flowerybeanbag · 18/06/2008 09:01

callme - I was about to write you a summary of what business partnering is, but then I thought if I just google, the CIPD thingy will come up to save me writing it!

I will email you the details of that publishing company, definitely. I'm all for the free publicity but not for wasting my time for not much benefit...

Welcome Jackie! Lots of people here whose experience you can benefit from if you're fairly new to it!
