Can I wear joggers and a hoodie to sign in? (JSA)

I have my first 'signing-on' tomorrow for job seekers allowance and I want to walk there with comfy trainers. I love walking and it saves on fares too. I'll be walking for about an hour. Is my choice of attire permissable?

There isn’t a dress code! Wear whatever you want.

Sorry. Title should've read sign 'on'!

It’s not a fashion show. Wear what you like. All they care about it what work you’ll be looking for.

You can wear what you want.
Don't make my mistake and take a hot drink though (I had a reusable cup of ginger tea as was in first trimester and really nauseous) as they made me leave that outside. I guess its potentially a dangerous object if someone gets sanctioned...

You can wear whatever you like! It's not a formal occasion. It's just admin.

Half of them will be in their PJs if it’s anything like where I used to sign on.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 09/12/2025 11:02

Ha ha, I have fond memories of signing on in cutoff shorts, vest top, babe in arms and a toddler in tow!

Ohmygodthepain · 09/12/2025 11:06

I went about 10 years ago (mid divorce, had moved away from abusive ex, was very much in the process of applying for many many jobs) turned up in a skirt suit. Felt like an absolute loon.

It’s sadly true though. Assaults in jobcentres are common and not necessarily related to being sanctioned

you’d look out of place if you didn’t

Thank you everyone. Hope I won't have to sign on for long. I'm applying for jobs like crazy - just waiting for the closing dates on them.
