Possibly screwed over by AI

In the interests of time and to avoid errors, I wanted to reply as quickly and smoothly to an interview request by email from a recruiter who wanted to move to the next step. So I let my AI app formulate a quick reply. Only after sending, I noticed AI had added a telltale 'signature' to the bottom.

" Thank you for reaching out. Thursday, November 20th at 1pm works perfectly—I’ll be available and looking forward to our conversation.

You can reach me at (XXX) XXX XXXX.

Best regards,

Would you like a slightly more casual or more formal version as well? You can reach me at 2XX XXX XXXX

"

Am I screwed? AI suggested a followup to tell her to disregard the last email BUT that would just draw more attention to it. I am so embarassed. Aren't recruiters trained to look for details? Is this over?

You need to remove the emdash anyway.

How do you spell perfectly? Now I am confused 😅 defo been misspelling that if that’s incorrect

@RLTraitors have a look at the screenshot in the OP - that’s where the typo is.

Greenwitchart · 19/11/2025 21:17

Ultimately you could not even be bothered tor write a two line email and you send some gobbledygook AI stuff instead.

As a hiring manager I would cross you out of my list of potential candidates immediately.

kotordreams · 19/11/2025 22:01

Why do you care? If were so uninvested you could be arsed to write the response or read before sending its clearly not a job you want.

Glitchymn1 · 19/11/2025 22:08

You told AI what you’d done and asked for a solution too? Good grief.

Ooo ouch! 😬 yes that’s a clanger. We all mess up OP. Try to forgive yourself if it all goes tits up and just think maybe this happened for a reason. Life is strange.

Chemenger · 19/11/2025 16:07

I don’t know why you would need AI to write what is essentially a two line email. If I received that I would think it was very strange and off-putting.

So would I. When I've needed to read job applications in the past, in a sector where good writing skills are essential, I found roughly one in three or four could be binned at once because of spelling mistakes or other clumsy errors (such as leaving in a chunk of unwanted text) in the covering letter. If an applicant can't get that right, they're either far below competence level or just not taking it seriously.

whatcanthematterbe81 · 20/11/2025 00:16

Sorry but I said no to applicants who did this and told them why. I said, if you don’t care enough to proof your AI then it’s a no. I’m not against AI at all but just act like you can be arsed. (Not talking to you, but my applicants)

We all will eventually

Well, you've just shown how AI can do your job. I have no idea why AI is being so heartily embraced, it's truly the beginning of the end.

SlippyYinzer · 20/11/2025 18:01

For all you know, your recruiter may also be AI.

Wildefish · 20/11/2025 18:02

Zkr623 · 19/11/2025 16:10

I didnt NEED it. I chose to because I was being lazy. 🤣

But on the other hand if someone is so nitpicky and shallow that they are looking so deeply into what is essentially nothing more than a really informal and quick confirmation email, then im not sure I'd want the job anyway. Isn't it?

Nitpicky and shallow😂 I think most organisations will want to employ someone who actually wants the job.

BostonGeorge13 · 20/11/2025 18:13

So, you were too lazy to write a simple response and too lazy to read what AI cobbled together? And you have to cheek to claim it was the AI that screwed you. You screwed yourself.

YouCantHandleTheRuth · 20/11/2025 18:17

If I invited someone for an interview and they responded with the phrase "Thank you for reaching out" I would immediately withdraw the offer of an interview.

Lights22 · 20/11/2025 18:17

I recruit regularly. I wouldn't call you for interview based on that. If you can't reply "xyz date is great, see you then" and need AI to do it for you, I'd question your ability to undertake the role. There's a whole load of finer details around that too, but in a nutshell, as above.

ThisBrickOtter · 20/11/2025 18:18

Anyone mentioned neurodiversity yet? AI is very helpful for tone checks and navigating these type of social rules.

Id find it more funny, and that's if i noticed. Like hell am I deep reading a confirmation email.

Being too lazy to form a couple of very simple sentences is not a good look for prospective employees.

Bemused89 · 20/11/2025 18:21

Yeah chalk that one up as a loss. I would immediately discontinue any recruitment with someone 1. who uses ai for the most basic reply. And 2. Is daft enough not to proof read before clicking send. Oh well. This is a learning experience so not entirely wasted!

My10centsworth · 20/11/2025 18:22

And another AI tell is the use of the em dash, never seen it anywhere else and I cannot find it on my dashboard. Bad form to use AI for such a simple email.

Pherian · 20/11/2025 18:39

AI didn’t screw you over - you did. You didn’t double check what you were sending out.

No idea if it hurts your chances but it looks sloppy.

NetZeroZealot · 20/11/2025 18:41

I’d put you in the No pile.

I don’t mind you using AI, I do mind you not proof reading & checking the email before you sent it.

MiniCoopers · 20/11/2025 19:17

AI didn’t screw you over, your laziness did, if you can’t trust yourself to write a short response then you need to do some more training.

’Deep reading’ a 2 sentence email isn’t a thing anyway

SB2527 · 20/11/2025 19:21

I wouldn't employ you. Sorry.
Height of laziness and I would be concerned that the slapdash approach would be followed through in the role.

AreYouSquiddingMe · 20/11/2025 19:26

You weren't screwed over by AI, you were screwed over by your own laziness. You didn't even bother to proof read it.

IsItTheBlackOneOrTheRedOne · 20/11/2025 19:31

I would not take your application any further, I’m afraid. Apart from making yourself look like you’re not able to write an email without help, the lack of attention to detail would seal it for me. You might be lucky and they are less picky / won’t notice.
