My mum said I won't get a new job because my hair is a mess!

My contract role is coming to an end soon and I'm a bit of my own hairdresser! I tend to thin my own hair out, trim my fringe. I've made a dreadful mess of my fringe in that I've cut the sides of my fringe so that I've got a strip of fringe instead of a full fringe to extend out at the temples. It'll take 4-6 months to grow back again, but I raise my hands and own my mistake. However, my mum said, "You'll never get a job with hair like that. You look like you're from a council estate" 🤦 . What should I do? I tell my mum it'll grow again, but will it stop me getting a job?

My mum can be very blunt too (she once told me I knocked into one of her coffee tables and almost knocked an ornament off with my "great fat arse"(!) 😂😬😳 - my arse isn't that big...!) But she'd probably never be quite so unkind about council estate people, or the bad hair.

I do agree with others that a professional cut that makes you look well polished, will hopefully get you that potential job.😎👍

Use an alice band to keep your fringe back

Agree with this 👆 hide it, get a job and use your first pay packet to get a proper hair cut.

Sounds like the kind of thing my mum would say 🙄

Realistically - interviews are short and interviewers make judgements.

Prodessional and I’ve made an effort are the impressions you want to make.

Poor delivery by mum, valid message.

Erm the same Hilary who said women worry far too much about appearance and it holds them back as men focus on the actual work?

But if your hair is bad enough it makes you look odd/unprofessional, get it fixed.

Yes, the same Hillary with the same message which was basically that, unfortunate though it is that women will be judged for the rather irrelevant things, judged they will be.

Here is the whole article:

A Hillary Clinton Hairstory: Long Locks, Headbands, and Power Cuts

A wise woman once said, “The most important thing I have to say to you today is that hair matters.” That wise woman is Hillary Clinton.

very true!

Well, I went for an interview, but I didn't get the job. I had my hair up nice and elegantly and mum said, "No wonder you didn't get the job". She's also calling me weird and, "Who goes round with hair like yours"? ☹
