illegal hours?

im currently working on a friday night until ten pm and start on saturday morning at 6am. i've been told by some people that I shouldhave an 11hr gap between one shift ending and next shift starting. something to do with an EU directive/employment law. but employer says this isnt true. help please?!

You are right. Regulation 10 of the Working Time Regulations 1998 say exactly that.

And in case your employer raises it, you CANNOT opt out of this rule the way you can with the 48 hour week.

There are some complications. For example, if you work shifts, the break can be less than 11 hours at a shift pattern change (e.g. when you move from two weeks on nights to two weeks on days), but the basic rule is as above.

thanx so much! will go into work this week all guns blazing! cant cope with such a short gap, not enough sleep and three children who i'm waking up at 4.30am every saturday morning while im getting ready for work! DH not v.happy about that! lol
