Help, reference requested before interview!

Hi everyone,

I have an interview for a PGCE next week and they have asked me to take with me an academic or employers reference. Since i would be amature student if i got accepted i couldn't get an academinc reference so it would have to be an employers reference.

However, i do not want work to know about my aplication cos if i don't get accepted i do not want them to think i am not serious about my job and am just passing the time etc until i get something else sorted etc

Help!! How can i get around this??

Hi again silversparkle, best of luck with the interview, sounds exciting!

I think you really need some advice from someone who works in this area ideally. As an employer I would completely understand you not wanting current employer references taken up before offer stage, that of course makes sense for the reasons you outline. So if it were a different job you were applying for, I'd advise you let them know that they can take up that reference as and when there is an offer of employment.

However, as it's not for employment, I don't know whether they'd go for that. I don't know how important references are and I don't know whether they are used to making offers 'subject to satisfactory references' as most employers are.

Might be an idea to put this in Education or Student parents, with a thread title of something like 'Anyone know about PGCEs and references', to get more specific help.
