Call from the recruiter on a friday afternoon following a job interview on Monday. Missed the call and now out of office. Good news or bad news?

Good news or bad news!

I can't imagine the recruiter would have bothered to ring on a Friday afternoon to say you didn't get the job.

Of course they would! So they can cross notifying all the unsuccessful candidates off their to do list and get the recruitment all tied up before the weekend. Except the OP foiled that plan by not answering the phone.

They left a message to call back (but they were closed by the time I called)

Really? I've always found that they don't usually bother contacting unsuccessful candidates at all, and you have to chase them up.

I don’t think it makes a difference whether its a yes or no based on the day.

I recently interviewed for a job and it took them an extra couple of days to let me know I was unsuccessful, I presume because they wanted the successful candidate to accept before binning off everyone else. My DP has been conducting interviews this week and contacted some on Thursday but others who interviewed later in the week will be notified next week once he and his team have had a chat about it.

Good luck though - just don’t get your hopes up based on the arbitrary time of a call. I suggested DP call the unsuccessful ones on Friday so they don’t ruin their weekend worrying, but he wanted to wait until Monday so he didn’t ruin their weekend being sad!
