Can you not become self employed in designing gardens? start with a few ads and the rely on recommendations. or did you mean you want to get into somthing a bit more specialised.

I am a support worker in kent, and nearly everyone i see would like help in their gardens either re-designing, or just general up keep, and i can never ever find people to do the job for them! (not at reasonable price anyway).

Dp's Dad started doing it a few years ago as a "hobby" for friends, and soon he had a full time job out of it.

Just by Acle ....... my garden needs lots of care, attention & love (a few hundred quid wouldn't hurt it either)

spod · 16/01/2005 14:26

£10-£15????

Round here (Notts/Derbys) pay would be about £5-6/hour for someone to do the garden (about the same rate as cleaning) according to local ads in Post Office. I know a friend in Surrey pays £10/hour for her gardener though.

Go for it! Loads of people need good gardners or even just someone to do bits and pieces. Advertise in garden centres and at playgroups and I know you will be busy. I paid £10 an hour for a chap in London to do my gardening.
