Do you care what your boss thinks of you

If you have been in a new job less that a year, and it’s got off to a bad start. You admit have been a bit crap but getting better. How do you not care what your boss thinks of you?

I don’t know.

I messed up at work on Thursday. Not massively. All put right now. Got a bit of a telling off that was harsher than I think I deserved (had done the work but misunderstood how it needed to be recorded so it was done differently to how my boss wanted it rather than not done at all) but not completely unwarranted.

still overthinking it in my head 🤦‍♀️

I'd be looking for a new job to be honest. If I really knew I wasn't liked I'd assume there was a ticking time bomb on my job.

This happened to me. Doing great, new boss came in and basically just doesn’t like me and made my life hell the past 9 months and now likely to be made redundant! Depends on the manager. Mine is too inexperienced for their job yet is trying to make it look like they can by throwing their weight around and making unreasonable (or rather impossible demands that have little business sense). I personally know it’s them and not me as my colleagues feel the same. Only they have the power and I can’t wait to move on!

Reading your post op, you say you admit (you?) Have been a bit crap but getting better, is that feedback from your boss? Have they given you any guidance or coaching on how to do it better?
Do you know how to do it better? Sometimes people do just clash and if I didn't think it would be better I'd do my bare min time, maybe 12-18months and look for a better fit

Why did it get off to a bad start ?
Sometimes my Manager and I don’t always see eye to eye and I don’t care if she doesn’t agree with me and in that instance I don’t care as I know I annoy her quite often (I line manage my own team so it’s usually a push and pull situation where I’m standing up for my team).
However, I pride myself on my work ethic, performance and conduct so in those instances yes I would care.

You can change someone’s opinion by doing a good job. Act like nothing happened and do a good job going forward.
