Employed and Self-employed ... maternity leave query

I am employed, pregnant (28 weeks) and plan to start my maternity leave at about 38 weeks.

I want to take 9 months before going back to work.

I also do a very small amount of freelance/self-employed work (tiny income in comparison to what I bring in from my employed position but don't want to lose it). I would be happy giving this up for the same 9 months but not sure my clients would be pleased.

Can anyone tell me where I stand with this? Am I 'allowed' to do any freelance work whilst I'm receiving SMP or will that mean I forfeit it?

Thanks!

fridayatlast iirc you can do self-employed work while receiving SMP from a job and not forfeit it. I will see if I can find a link for you.

Here you are, working families factsheet, see under 'working for another employer', there's a sentence about self-employed work.

Flowerybeanbag - thank you so much for the link. It's a tiny amount but I really didn't want to give up the self-employed bit, that's put my mind at rest.
