Where can I buy a decent office chair for working from home?

.....and actually try it out in a shop before I buy it!
Working from home permanently and really need a better chair. There are lots online and we have ordered and tried a few but not everywhere accepts returns and it's a faff.

Problem is - where can I look at chairs and actually sit on them to test them out?!

We've been to Ikea and they had a few but otherwise shops such as dunelm, the range, next etc all don't have any on display or maybe only one.

Is there somewhere I'm not thinking of that will have a range of chairs in an actual physical shop to try before I buy?

are you self employed? If not then your workplace really should be providing an adequate chair.

Yes self employed.

I had a gaming chair from the Range. I was able to try my brother's out first though. Love it. Is there anyone you can ask who has a good chair, if do try that out first.

IKEA? I love mine

I can't recall if Staples still have any physical stores or went online only, but they do office furniture.

A big enough Rymans might. Some furniture shops may also have some on display, but call ahead to check first as they probably don't have much on the shop floor. I know a Lee Longlands that had a couple and would assume Furniture Village or similar would do the same.

I had this one, comfiest I've owned and lasted years.

Back in action
They have a London and. Bristol shop I know.

I went and sat in them all in Ikea and picked the one I liked best (turns out I like a classic armless, low-back, relatively cheap and cheerful, and it's done me well for about 6 years now - vs. the big leatherish things with high backs I'd had previously that always made me uncomfortable and gave me a numb bum)

Costco often have a couple of the big leather nice ones, and they always have them out on display.

Where in the country are you? There are lots of office clearance shops near me in London. Do you have one local to you where they have lots of different types of chairs?

Secondhand office furniture place. We go to ORS, I got a lovely Hermann Miller chair of the same type we have in the office for a bargain price. There will almost certainly be a similar business near you.

We live in Kent. I've tried Ikea but wasn't keen on any of the offerings.
I have a small working space so need something that isn't too big/wide.

John Lewis is somewhere I hadn't thought of. So might take a look there. Ryman's we only have small stationary shop ones. I think staples all closed down some years ago.

There's just a real lack of physical shops these days to look for things!

Plenty of chairs online but the quality varies so much and returns aren't always possible as they usually require building.
Sitting all day everyday I want to make sure it's comfortable as the current chair I have (bought cheaply online from Amazon) is causing me back and hip pain!

Thanks for the suggestions so far.
