I am having a department meeting next month and need some ideas to get the team interacting and contributing to discussions. All icebreaking exercises make me want to die, ("tell us your star sign" etc) but has anyone experienced any good, fun ones?

we did one years ago where you had to write down 3 things about yourself that people would never know, then someone read them out and you had to guess who it was. all sorts of fun stuff came up like scotland's majorette champion 1984 etc. was very funny and gave everyone something to talk about for weeks afterwards

the game Bop-it! works a treat! Play it on have a turn-pass round function. its all good

oops sorry - won't get people to give ideas etc but will loosen people up a little before the real stuff kicks in...

You get people to talk in pairs, to the person sat next to them., name, job/dept, interesting fact. The other person gives the introduction to the group.

For gods sake do NOT do the bloody ball throwing exercise, so so embarrassing.

Tragically, I have literally to hand a book on small group teaching with a reference for 48 ice breakers.

Malseed J 1994. Forty eight warm ups for group work, in R armstrong, F percival and d saunders eds The simulation and gaming yearbook volume 2. London: Kogan Page.

Not sure if you can get it on an open access site.

I can feel the hard stares from here..I am not sure my group would go for that, but I guess I'll have to take a deep breath & try something. No ball throwing, I promise!
I don't know what Bop-it is , though. I like the interesting fact idea.
