I help out one day a week in DD's school. Doing it for this summer term. I do mornings in a Y3 class and the afternoons with Y1/Y2. I just asked if I could go in as I wanted to get some experience of primary eduction as considering returning to education (am a trained secondary teacher), but poss as a TA in primary. I don't need to be CRB checked as not left alone with the children, but have said I have no problem with being CRB checked as and when required. I already have full CRB disclosure for present jo 9in a prison) but this doesn't count as needs to be done for every new job. The parents were told in a newsletter why I was in school.

A friend does something similar in a local school (not her DCs school) too. One morning and one afternoon a week working with a Y3 teacher. Again she contacted the school direct about it. She is hoping to start a TA course next academic year and needed the experience beforehand and during the course. She cobntacted 2 or 3 schools; the first couple had no space for a volunteer; this one did. Again she hasn't needed to be CRB checked yet as not alone with the children.

If you mean volunteering, i.e.not getting paid, just go in and speak to the Head.

Agree, either call in or maybe ring round local schools. That's what I did one day a week at DSs school before I got a TA job in secondary.
DSs school asked for a CRB check though (they paid)
