Working from home ending?

Jp Morgan, Asda, Amazon and WPP are forcing people back into the office? Is it ending working from home?

Hopefully

Harassedmum123 · 11/01/2025 21:58

Let’s hope so! All the work shy will be crying buckets right about now though!

Danikm151 · 11/01/2025 21:59

Our office isn’t big enough for people to stop wfh!

wfh also means sick days have reduced

Dobbythechristmaself · 11/01/2025 22:00

My office has just gone fully remote.

Jewell25 · 11/01/2025 22:02

No, not here. We’re staying mostly remote. Just have to go into the office once a week. Very happy as I love wfh.

Only on paper. People will still be taking duvet days and the like, they will just be fibbing about it.

The folks wailing about WFH are the ones you would never allow to WFH. Those who have no work ethic. Like you, for example.
(Obvs you are a heart surgeon and essential to the NHS)
4 years wfh, all SLA's met and building costs reduced. I'm good thanks.

PrioritisePleasure24 · 11/01/2025 22:14

My partner works for the local gov and can only go in the office one day a week as it all got restructured and now there’s no room now for all teams to be in each day! No sign of change either

midgetastic · 11/01/2025 22:14

Senior management - back to the office

Local management - work where you want , the work is great we don't want you to change

@@Harassedmum123 yes i can say I have no friends and no social life if that makes you feel better. Not offended at all.

TeenLifeMum · 11/01/2025 22:20

My office tried this, so in we all went… the rest of the office complained our dept was “taking over”. We’re back to wfh hybrid and I go in 1-3 times a week - less than before 😂

People who say wfh means we’re work shy can fuck off though. I worked my arse off during the pandemic and so did dh and he was fully wfh. He didn’t get leave from March 2020 to October because it was cancelled and he regularly got calls from the ceo with urgent requests at 9pm at night. The balance is better now but neither of us can do no work without it being noticed. I assume this people making these claims are in jobs that cannot be done or measured from home so they’re jealous and want others to be forced in so they don’t feel so jealous. Weird.

Copernicus321 · 11/01/2025 22:22

I worked for a large business which took the opportunity of Covid remote working to dispose of its entire office estate. They've taken on some hub working space that can be used 3 days a week. I think it's going to be hybrid working going forward for this reason, not enough office space.

I have to say that generally, whatever people say about "oh I'm so much more effective working remote", from a customer perspective, everything post covid is just hopeless, nothing works anymore everything is broken. As a customer I don't expect anything to turn out right. Whatever employees think, the customer experience is different. Make of that what you will. Because of hybrid working, I think an era of lower productivity as an economy has now been built in.

Exactly this.

In my job it would be pretty bloody obvious if someone wasn't doing their work, regardless whether they're at home or in an office.

tribpot · 11/01/2025 22:23

From what I recall of office working, the work shy found plenty of ways to shirk in the office too.

DatingDinosaur · 11/01/2025 22:25

WTAF is 'work shy' about working from home? Can someone explain that twisted logic please.

What an odd assumption. Dh wfh full time and spends most of that on calls. He could go to an office but they are a huge organisation so he’d likely be sat on a teams call with people at other bases so it would be pointless. He’s also lead singer in a band and does team sports. I prefer hybrid as I like some office time but the flex to wfh is fab.

Donttellempike · 11/01/2025 22:25

I’ve worked from home for 14 years. If I don’t do my work it sits there waiting for me. Why does anyone else give a toss who works from home and who doesn’t? Jealousy? It’s pathetic

elizabethdraper · 11/01/2025 22:25

My company tried it. They forgot they let the lease go for offices and hired an extra 200 people.

Flipping mayhem, no desks facilities or parking

We are 100 % remote working now unless you want to come in

Oh yeah i have a much better social life now, no more 2 hour commutes to go 10in

Now have time for gyms and clubs
.

cryinglaughing · 11/01/2025 22:25

My dh's office was sold and houses built on the land.
He would love the opportunity to go into an office a couple of days a week but it isn't likely to happen ☹️

Yep, they make tea, eat breakfast at their desk, faff around the photocopier and do very little actual work.

menopausalmare · 11/01/2025 22:26

Great🙄 More traffic congestion.

It's not a generic statement. It's about those who then go to the gym, do their weekly shop, have a regular afternoon nap (all genuine examples from Mumsnet in the past). It doesn't apply to all. I know when I WFH I work MORE hours as I tend to do " just another half hour" which inevitably leads to an hour or more

I'm amazed that people who WFH actually can go to the gym or have a nap. I WFH. Teams goes yellow after about 5 mins. People Instant message (or whatever it is called on Teams) or call me without warning. No way I'd get in a nap.
