I am in the process of claiming my maternity allowance but I would really like to know how they work out how much I am going to get as nowhere on the form does it ask how much I earn??????

I've been trying to call them, but no one answer's the phone, or it's engaged!!!

Can anyone help me?

it's nearly three years now since i claimed this........and i do remember sending the form off and being asked for more information.

I think if you are self employed, they just pay you the maximum - is it £110 a week?

Thanks. I assumed they just payed the maximum, but didn't want to get my hopes up (what little it is!) Also, does anyone know how long it takes for the application to get processed?

From what I remember, you send it in, and then it takes them a few weeks (6?) to process it, and then you notify them when you're stopping work and it all kicks into action. I think I sent the form in when I was about 30 weeks?

See here standard rate £117 or 90% of your gross average earnings if you earn less than that.

Thabks guys I'll get it off today then.... The sooner the better!

Jodie - I think they send you a form back, which is the one you have to send in when you stop work or the baby comes (whichever happens first - in my case the latter!).

Cool, thanks
