Civil service job ad - signs that have candidate in place?

Hello, I've just started applying for jobs in view of my fixed term contract running out. I was all set to apply for my first (of many, I'm sure, going by the posts on the topic!) Civil Service post then noticed (1) it's only open for one week (2) it requires less effort than usual posts - only asks for CV and 500w supporting statement and (3) possibly overthinking this one, but there is also a problem on the online application as nowhere to put the CV or statement (I have emailed their technical people about this).

Am I too cynical or does this suggest a "legally need to advertise but have internal candidates in mind for a quick start" situation?

I will probably apply anyway if the technical issue is resolved as it's all good practice, I'm just interested to know in case this comes up again and I need to prioritise where I'm putting my time and energy

I may have looked at the very same job Grin

I just assumed someone messed up when putting the vacancy online.

Yes that sounds like an internal ad for EOI

Icannoteven · 09/10/2024 22:36

Yep. Internal candidate earmarked for this. You are correct, unfortunately.

It may still be well worth applying though because if you score highly at interview, they might keep you in mind for other jobs that come up or if the internal candidate moves on quickly for some reason.

The CV fuck up is probably just genuine incompetence though.

There is no legal requirement to advertise jobs.

Ha, I have wondered how many people on here go for the same jobs!

Thanks all, if the error is fixed I’ll put an application in - the dept isn’t my natural home but one of the roles is something I have a lot of experience in so an interview would be good practice and good to know they remember people!
