Long term supply, hating my new role and want to leave but feel guilty. I feel very disrespected?

Please read and tell me? Should I feel guilty for quitting early and not staying until the end?
I have taken on a role on long term supply. Meant to continue until the end of Christmas. At first it was okay.

But I’ve already grown to hate it and go in and leave with anxiety everyday. I’m a supply on long term, and I know I’m technically an agency worker and they could easily turnaround and say they don’t need me anymore. Can I do the same ?

I have a head of EYFS who is also the assistant head who is just very rude towards me I can almost feel hate, I haven’t done anything. We don’t even talk much, she hardly ever approaches me and when she does speak to me it’s like she doesn’t even want to look me in the eye. It’s strange. (The executive head is lovely by the way). She told me off like a child second week in when we took class for lunch and her tone was so nasty.

Today during ppa I heard from my partner teacher that she critiqued my displays, then the outdoor area. I’m a supply new in, I need guidance, she is picky and likes everything her way so I wouldn’t try or bother to put something up on my own. Why was t anything done about the outdoors before the summer if it needed work, she the assistant head was covering in that class once a week. So she knows the environment.

She also rudely told me off during practice fire drill. Rudely saying “I heard you didn’t do your practice fire drill”. Again I’m new, no one told me, the experienced teacher did not either. I was not even shown where we do go in a fire drill.
My husband is seeing the stress I’m going through and pushing me to quit and move into another role after October half term, but I feel guilty like I made a commitment until Christmas. Specially feel bad for the students and the families as it’s Autumn term. Yet they will hece a new teacher at Christmas anyway. But I haven’t signed a contract. Also travel is 45 mins to50 mins every morning.

Also, my TA is getting involved in everything. Like snack time we cannot sing nursery rhymes or have nursery rhymes to sing along to in the background. We can’t do this and we can’t do that. I’m the class teacher, I decide.

If you can, leave. Tell them why during the exit process with all of these examples. Don't feel guilty; you come first.

It sounds like you have no supervision and had no induction. No one told you about the fire drills for example or where to go. Surely that's something you learn on your first day as it's health and safety.

It sounds badly managed OP and I wouldn't blame you for leaving.

You don't have to go back ever if you don't want to. You can just ring your agency and tell them and they will send someone else.

I've been doing primary supply for eight years. Day to day and long term and the situation that you are in is not normal at all. I've never done a display on long term unless I've wanted to do it! Schools are usually grateful that they have someone rather than a series of people for a day or two.

The trick with supply is to accept that it is temporary you are not there to match watch permanent teachers do. You are probably not paid to scale either.

Supply should be a way to get more of a work life balance, and and be upfront about it. You are not bring paid as much as permanent staff so should not work as hard as them (outside hours you are paid for). Otherwise what is the poing of giving up the monthly/ sick pay etc

If it's not working get on to another agency to line something up for you then leave. The school would drop you in a heartbeat if they had a different option

Leave. You don’t owe them anything. They should know that good teachers are hard to find and should treat you with respect. They didn’t even have the courtesy to explain the school basics to you. If they ask you why you are leaving please tell them the truth: no proper induction to school procedures given unrealistic expectations eg doing displays and senior leadership treating you with contempt
You deserve to work in a school where you are valued and respected

I signed up to an agency the other day for supply, and I'm already regretting it. I much prefer my zero hours catering job. No stress. It's such a shame, but life's too short to be miserable if you can move on and go somewhere else.

The TA is probably just trying to help you avoid more criticism for things she knows aren’t usual at that school.

You’re unhappy there, you have the option to leave so just leave.

Oh definitely leave. Your next placing could be so much better.
Unfortunately some schools are really awful places to work in but you certainly don't have to stay.
Imagine how much better you'll feel knowing you aren't going back.

No ones really explained what’s exactly expected. I am getting paid to scale that’s how long term works here, so I just assumed I will do everything as a normal teacher would. But I don’t want to be treated like I’m nothing.

If you are being paid to scale then there is an expectation that you are going to do the things that a contracted teacher is doing but I would expect guidance over displays and sorting out the outside areas. And nobody should be being rude to you.

The TA telling you what you can and can't do during snack time is bewildering.
