I am on the list school has sent out for observations, I have only started with them through an agency on a long term role.

I do not know what my rights are?

Can someone please tell me ?

Of course they can observe you why wouldn’t they.

Yes, they can observe your lessons. They will know that you've only just started on supply and will take that into account.

I thought supply teachers was not meant to get formally observed ?

Never seen anything to suggest you shouldn't be observed as a supply teacher. If you're going to be there more than a couple of days, I wouldn't be surprised if SLT wanted to do an observation.

Why do you think you shouldn't be? or don't want to be? I mean, talk to your union if you have real concerns.

Is this Ofsted, or SLT?

Tel12 · 27/09/2024 10:39

Why would you object?

Hedonism · 27/09/2024 10:55

I bloody hope they can observe supply teachers! Sounds like good practice to me.

What are you worried about?

FrippEnos · 27/09/2024 11:35

It will depend on your contract, but as you are long term supply, I would expect to be observed at some point.

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 27/09/2024 15:13

Absolutely you should be included, you are a professional and should expect this. We used to observe all teachers who were new as part of QA ... no exceptions.

STD practice. I'm not sure why you're so bothered? Surely you'll have been observed before?

Spondoolie · 27/09/2024 19:23

Our school have full time observation cycle now so multiple times per week anyway. It’s become the norm

lavenderlou · 27/09/2024 19:25

I don't think there's anything to say they can't, but the advantage of being a supply teacher is that you can leave if the school do things you don't like.
