Applying for the job I've been doing for 6 months !

The job I've been doing on Temp contracts since September is being advertised internally, with the expectation that I should be the only applicant . I have to return the relevant forms, what should I say in the boxes "Suitability for role" "relevant skills" etc without sounding facetious.

Just list what you have been doing, comparing it to what the job description says. I don't think they can say you are being facetious if you list what skills you have used/acquired over the last 6 months. It just proves you are right for the job.

I'm on maternity leave but normally work with a project that helps with jobsearch skills etc. We would advise people in your situation to use language such as " As demonstrated I have developed ......." insert specific skills/knowledge etc relevant to the post and "I am familiar with ......." insert details of activities/the role etc. Also outline competencies you have brought and demonstrate your knowledge of the skills required of the post. I've found that the most common mistake people make when applying for a job they are already doing is assuming the recruitment panel know how well they have been doing it and it kind of inhibits them - they don't want to look like they are blowing their own trumpet. You also don't want it to look like you think it is a done deal that you'll get it (even if it is vv likely!!!!) so put as much effort into it as you would an external one. HTH and lots of luck!

And yes totally agree with Freckle - make sure you relate it to the job description requirements - demonstrating you know it inside out!

Just pretend you are an external candidate and address the person spec in detail using examples from both your current work and previous work. Don't assume they know anything about you, especially if when you get to interview stage. Good luck

So tomorrow I have the interview which I'm told is a formality - I'm the only applicant ! any tips ?

i had to do this recently, for the job running the team of which i had been deputy. have worked there for 13 years. it was deeply embarrassing and i had to give a presentation to and be interviewed by people i know really well.

i didn't prepare well enough really, partly through pressure of work because i was covering the other job and partly because having been there so long i haven't had many interviews!

i'd say think about what they'll need to ask you in order for you to demonstrate the competencies required. (i fucked up on management experience questions). if you have a weak point then own up to it and talk about how you could overcome this with training or development, they already know.

basically just make it really easy for them to give you the job. good luck (what are you going to wear?)
