First day of new job and it’s a heatwave- what would you wear??!

Hi All,
I start my new job tomorrow which will be WFH but I’m in the office for the first couple of days to meet everyone. I’ve been really organised and have chosen outfits but now it’s going to be a heatwave and I don’t know what to wear!

I’d planned to wear grey high waist wide leg suit trousers with a short sleeved black cardigan but I’m worried I’ll be too hot now. For the second away I was going to wear slightly cropped black suit trousers, a white t shirt with a beige cardigan on top (and Chanel-like beige and black ballet pumps) but the cardigan is long sleeved so will be a problem.

I don’t tend to wear dresses for work (very male industry and despite being 40 I have been told dozens of times that I look very young so I try to avoid anything remotely girly).

I bought a set of fitted plain t shirts to pair with trousers but I wanted to look smart. Does anyone have any suggestions of suitable outfits for tailored trousers that I won’t boil in?

I think the cropped trousers and T-shirt with smart shoes sounds good, just ditch the cardigan, although maybe bring it along incase the office is overly air conditioned.

I like the satin/silk skirts and T-shirt too, I saw a woman wearing a really rich blue silk skirt and white T-shirt the other day on the tube who looked lovely.

linen trousers?

Does the office have air con? If so all is well.

if you have a commute on public transport wear a vest top and light shoes to travel then change on arrival?

If it has air con as a PP says you’ll be fine - just look for a cafe near by you can change in.

If not then day 2 sounds fine, just dump the cardi.

a t shirt will look less crumpled and hot than a button down shirt, so given the timeframe I’d stick with it. In a heat wave dress rules do relax a bit. Do you have some similar light trousers you can work on day one? If not can you wash and iron overnight and just swap t shirts?

Ditch the cardigans and it will be fine.

Go with the t-shirts. I work in a senior role and in the summer wear plain, good quality t-shirts with fitted work trousers and flat shoes.

there is no magic outfit that will keep you cool unfortunately. I also wear very light weight white cotton shirts. Avoid anything. That will show sweat stains😊.
