How long after applying for a job and not hearing anything would you assume you were not sucessful in getting an interview?

TIA x

on a lot of my job applications it would say please assume that if you haven't heard back in 4 weeks that you have not been successful on this ocassion, so i think that's the general benchmark

I had a message from an HR department I applied to saying if you haven't heard anything in 8 weeks assume you've not been chosen. But on the other hand it also was talking about a job closing date about 4 months in the past.

smurfgirl depends to a large extent on the job and the organisation and how the applications were made. Can you say any more?

For example an ad in the paper with a long closing date might be longer than an agency.
