Have never had to do this before.

It is a personal refernce for a friend. She has applied for a new job. She needed one work ref and one personal ref. I am the personal ref.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks.

Be honest
Talk about what you value about her

i.e.

I have known x for many years. She is trustworthy, reliable and hardworking etc etc

Yes, not too much detail - just personable, friendly, loyal etc.

Think the others have answered. You can always reflect on why you think she is suitable for the job - her strengths etc.

OK, must write this tonight or in the morning, to post by lunch time.

I don't know where to start!

Anyone have links to samples?

It is for a job in the NHS (already works in NHS) - admin/secretarial. using computer type stuff - ahev job spec in letter.
