A thread for people who are waiting to hear if they’ve been shortlisted 2

Continuing as we filled the thread!

A space to fret, vent and generally get support for that horrible in-betweeny bit between applying and finding out if you’ve ticked all the boxes!

@DoingJustFine Did you hear about the job yet? Sorry if I missed it on the last thread.

DaysofHoney · 04/06/2024 05:08

I’m going to hang out here while I wait for news of my final interviews… HR chap has said he will be in touch with next steps today (I think I have to do some personality tests or something too, so many hoops!)

Good luck to anyone else waiting!

firebrand123 · 04/06/2024 08:08

And so begins another day of constantly checking my email, waiting to hear back on last week's interviews and yesterday's HR chats (ie agonising over 4 different potential jobs)...

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 04/06/2024 09:12

Hello, can I join in? Deadline was Sunday, but they say they will be interviewing next week so they need to trawl the applications quick smart.
First job application after 14 years of SAHMing, it’s an organisation I volunteer for and they have a track record of employing women after career breaks in this role.

slamfightbrightlight · 04/06/2024 10:10

Aah good luck to all waiting!

I’ve thrown my CV at a company in an attempt to pick up some private work alongside the day job. Must be mad but feel like I need to build up some kind of side hustle to keep my skills up in my area of expertise. Having a chat with them later so will see!

Joining in.

Waiting to find out if I have made it through to 3rd and hopefully final interviews for two roles.

Hope everyone gets a update very soon

BadSkiingMum · 04/06/2024 13:52

Hello, just signing In again on the new thread.

firebrand123 · 04/06/2024 15:50

So I heard from one of the two interviews I had on Friday. They liked me but think I'd be better suited to a different role they're recruiting for. It's related and is equivalent in seniority, just a bit of a different focus. I can see why they've suggested it. Not totally sold on it but I'll say yes please put me forward for now at least. Not thrilled about yet more interviews (it will mean another 1, maybe 2 rounds) but at least it's not a no!!

MurielThrockmorton · 04/06/2024 16:22

Ooh can I join? I put in an application at the weekend for a job. I've been self-employed for 15 years, but it's getting hard to get work and then I'm being messed around by clients (not really on purpose, just because they also are being messed around by something or other) and I'm finding it too stressful and it's taking over my life. I feel ambivalent about getting a job, in some ways excited and relieved I've made a decision, but in other ways apprehensive about being tied into an organisation. Anyway, I might not be offered it so trying not to overthink it at this stage. Interviews next week if I get one.

Changingplace · 04/06/2024 16:29

Coming to join! I had a third round interview over a week ago and heard nothing yet… they did take forever coming back in between the other two though so I’m trying to keep faith but it’s driving me mad!

Good luck everyone :)

Interesting! I had that happen once and the other role did work out brilliantly, good luck!

Ooh, that's good to know, thank you!

And good luck to everyone else waiting to hear 😊

Trumpetoftheswan2 · 04/06/2024 17:31

I'm going to hang out here as well.

Was due to hear the outcome of an interview yesterday or today. No phone call, so I'm assuming they're trying to contact the successful candidate.

Preparing myself for yet another 'you were a close second but someone else was better than you' call.

I had been due to go away over the Bank Holiday weekend but cancelled to spend two days preparing for this interview. I thought it went well and wish I hadn't bothered now.

It's civil service, so an outside chance that there's an admin delay, but they haven't sent a 'holding' email like they did when they took an age to shortlist.

Going to get back on the job sites this evening. Has anyone any positive stories about a delay in hearing back from an interview, but the outcome being good, just to give me a bit of hope as I review my CV yet again?

No3387 · 04/06/2024 17:37

I've put out a few applications as I can't stay where I am. One is working from home, so fingers crossed for that one!

I used to be happy to go into work, and genuinely enjoy every day. Now I dread getting up in the morning!

MurielThrockmorton · 04/06/2024 17:47

I was offered a job 9 days after I'd been told I'd hear @Trumpetoftheswan2 - they had offered it to someone else but she'd wanted to work from home more than they wanted so they gave it to me!

I had this - didn't hear back for ages and then HR contacted me saying they had a hiring freeze which caused the delay and said they liked me so much that another more senior role with more money and would I prefer that role.

I have had delays and still got offered the role. A lot of places are being fairly slow to respond at the moment. The bigger the org the slower the process I have found !

I find applying and then keep applying to others until I get to offer stages helps me focus on moving forward - TRY to forget about the interviews as soon as I have had them.

Chin up all - it's a tough market

Trumpetoftheswan2 · 04/06/2024 17:55

Thanks Muriel. I would be very happy with being second choice.

I do have a job, so am in a better position than when I was last looking which took over a year and so, so many interviews but I'm mid-50s and and really need to leave my current role and get into an organisation where they'll be at least a little chance of development before it's too late.

At least as it's civil service, I'll get some feedback and not be ghosted

Trumpetoftheswan2 · 04/06/2024 17:56

That's my plan livingnight. Back on the job sites this evening. Trying to stay upbeat but god I'm pig sick of spending my weekends preparing for interviews, preparing presentations which come to nothing

MurielThrockmorton · 04/06/2024 18:11

I'm mid 50s too Trumpet - I'm wondering whether that's a factor in not getting so much freelance work. I think age will be an advantage in the job I'm going for, though they may not see it that way Grin.

Trumpetoftheswan2 · 04/06/2024 18:17

I was self-employed for 14 years then went into a job role. Similar reasons to you. I don't regret it at all and indeed am looking for another job.

I'm with you the presentation part drives me especially bonkers.

I don't mind if it's a normal 1hr interview but 3 stages a presentation and my inside leg measurement makes me cranky if I don't hear a thanks but no thanks.

I'm feeling despondent at the moment so this thread will help me "give my head a wobble" as they say on MN

Trumpetoftheswan2 · 04/06/2024 18:44

I'm also feeling despondent at the moment. Looking at job sites makes me feel a bit ill. I have a little break when I've got an interview scheduled, but always end up back on there.

DaysofHoney · 04/06/2024 19:54

Evening Waiters,

Agree hugely on the presentation piece - I really think it should be used for final interviews only. It’s such overkill. You can get a good measure of someone’s presentation skills and confidence just through the regular interview process- which is daunting enough already!

HR emailed me this morning to say they’d provide an update today but I’ve heard nothing - I’m determined to stay positive.

Trumpetoftheswan2 · 04/06/2024 20:13

Good for you DaysofHoney. That's what I need to do.

Re: presentations. A job I interviewed for a couple of years ago gave me the feedback that my interview and presentation had been the best but they went with another candidate because he knew some of the stakeholders. They then went on to use some of the material that I had used in my presentation to promote the project.

I'd been job-hunting for a while then, I think that was my tenth interview, and felt so utterly powerless and worthless.
