Arghhhh...just accepted a new job with an organisation and they've advertised another role I'd love

I have just accepted a role with an organisation I am VERY keen to work with. So keen I have taken a pay cut. The day after I accept they advertise a role on my current salary that fits my skills. The recruiting manager for the role I have accepted is on leave until the day before the job closes.

Do I:

apply and email him letting him know I have applied so he sees it when he is back?
get the application ready and talk to him on his first day back before submitting the application?
apply and say nothing (but it is a small organisation and he may - likely - find out?
give it up?

If they had advertised both of the roles at the same time I would have applied for both.

Do you have a contact in HR you've made and could possibly have a discrete conversation with?

Enterthewolves · 10/05/2024 19:47

No unfortunately not, I’ve only dealt with the hiring manager.

Oh and they use a system that doesn’t allow direct contact with the employer or offer a real person to talk to - I have emailed and asked for contact details but that was two days ago and nothing.

I'd get the application ready and then speak to him once you are back.

What did you decide to do OP?

Enterthewolves · 22/05/2024 23:43

I applied, sent an email to the manager who’d recruited me, having tried and failed to get contact details from the recruiters and almost had the first job offer pulled!

Why would they pull it?!

OneThreadOnly · 22/05/2024 23:49

I hope it all works out in the end. Did they give you a reason for pulling it?

Honestly the oddest experience, all resolved now but has left me feeling on edge.
