Kangarude · 05/05/2024 23:15

You may need to give some more information!

AsYouMightBe · 05/05/2024 23:19

Child me knew exactly what my father did. My mother didn’t work.

Deardear17 · 05/05/2024 23:21

Child me thought my dad fought sharks to keep our seas safer to swim in, and had the scars to prove it!
he worked offshore and got his scars falling of a chair while drunk 😂 but I believed the shark story for a while. I was so disappointed to discover the truth lol

Most children knew what their parents did for a living. Unless they worked for MI5

SpeedwellBlue · 05/05/2024 23:24

Dd used to think my late dh worked on a train as we'd said he went to work on a train (to an office.)

PuttingDownRoots · 05/05/2024 23:24

When my DDs were 4&6, they managed to come to the conclusion that my job was... being a Princess.
Because I sometimes had to go to parties wearing long pretty dresses.

SpongeBobSquarePantaloons · 05/05/2024 23:49

I know what job my dad had when I was a kid, but to be quite honestly I still have no idea what he actually did at that job. Which has never really occurred to me until now Confused

bluetopazlove · 06/05/2024 00:04

I had no illusions of grandeur about what my parents did for a living .

pizzaHeart · 06/05/2024 00:06

Worked in an office, knew from early age.

StripeySoc · 06/05/2024 00:07

Child me knew exactly what job my parents had

GrazingSheep · 06/05/2024 00:07

My mother was a sahm.
All 5 of us kids stood on the doorstep every morning and our dad kissed us goodbye. We knew he worked in an office - he was a civil servant.

marthasmum · 06/05/2024 00:12

My dad was an actor. I knew that he was sometimes on tv and when I was quite little, I thought he was Dr Who because that’s the only thing I watched.

Castlerigg · 06/05/2024 00:21

I thought my parents were both nurses. Because they were.

Would you elaborate please?

Recruiter123 · 06/05/2024 00:22

I want your job @PuttingDownRoots 😂

Child-me thought my father was a seaman, an engineer at a cargo ship.
My father was a seaman, an engineer at a cargo ship.

Child-me thought my mother was a dinner lady/lunch lady. And that's what she was.

MegsNaiceJam · 06/05/2024 00:58

Child me knew exactly what my parents did for their jobs. I don’t think I ever thought it was any different.

I also knew what jobs my grandparents did until they retired.

My parents don’t know what job I do, but know I work for the government.

novocaine4thesoul · 06/05/2024 01:15

MI5
Could not talk about my job much, but I did not work for MI5.
Made worse by staying regularly at the Hilton where rooms are metres from the MI5 building on Thorney Street, and the kids tracking me on iphone to there. The more I insisted it was not true, the more they believed I was lying 😂

GoldHag · 06/05/2024 07:01

Until I was about 6, I thought my dad worked in a cake shop!. He sometimes brought home cake. Well, most Fridays i think. Later, when he told me that he worked in a bank, my face fell, "but .....it's over a cake shop". (Child me) "Phew!!"
I saw it eventually, huuuuuge bank hq, no customers even, no cake shop. I could cope with the truth by then.

PiggyPlumPie · 06/05/2024 07:22

Always thought my Dad counted money!

In reality, he had signed the official secrets act and I still don't really know.

Ditto.

From age 5. Our lifestyle made it perfectly obvious.

TheVeryAngryCaterpillar · 11/07/2024 22:04

My mum was a teacher (true) and my dad did something Very Important that meant he needed to move somewhere by himself to have more space to work. I guess "Mum and Dad don't love each other any more" was too much for them but child me bought it for waaaay longer than I should have!

DreamTheMoors · 11/07/2024 22:27

My dad was a farmer - I knew that. We have a vineyard - I went there often. I still do.
But I thought my dad was a farmer of everything, grapes, apples, peaches, tomatoes - you name it, because people would give him gifts of various fruits & vegetables and he’d bring them home. Therefore, in my little girl mind, all those fruits & vegetables came from “Daddy’s farm.”
