Got an in-house interview tomorrow, other candidate has threatened HR/union if she doesn't get the job

I have an internal interview tomorrow, as does another candidate from my work place. I have done all the work in this setting all year, as other candidate states she can't for various minor health reasons. Our temporary contracts are coming to an end, however one position in the setting where she won't cover has come up. We have both applied (she now says I can do that setting)but other candidate has sent various emails stating just because I've worked in there shes going to demand interview score card contact union make sure everything has been fair etc. she has sent these to the boss. Should I be worried that they will just give her the job now to stop any fuss ?

Tbh I think they will do everything in their power NOT to give her the job.

How have you found out about these emails to the boss? It's unprofessional of them to have told you about it.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 29/04/2024 17:11

Agree with the pp. Also make sure you score highest!

Bramshott · 29/04/2024 17:24

I think if they were to give her the job, that tells you everything you want to know about them as an employer, and you should get the hell out of there!

DancefloorAcrobatics · 29/04/2024 17:27

Well, you already have top scores for the areas you have been covering and she hasn't....
I don't think they will employ a bully.

How did you find out?

AlisonDonut · 29/04/2024 17:30

They would be mad to employ her with threats like that.

Just do your best and don't worry about her.

Soonenough · 29/04/2024 17:30

Temporary contracts mean that she hasn't got a leg to stand on. And on the other leg she has shot herself in the foot . No chance the management would want to take her on permanently.

Greywitch2 · 29/04/2024 17:33

No, don't worry. She's a lunatic.

Jellycatspyjamas · 29/04/2024 17:35

Is she saying she has a disability (you mention minor health reasons), if so the employer really needs to make sure the process is fair and accessible to her or she could potentially fight her way into the job regardless.

sockarefootwear · 29/04/2024 17:37

I don't think they will be keen to keep this person on, as it sounds like they are being awkward (it seems odd that they have previously said health means they can't work in a particular setting but changing their minds when that's where the job opening is). I have been on an interview panel where the candidate made it clear that they would assume unfairness if they were not given the job. It just made us keep to pre-arranged questions very closely for all candidates and document responses and reasons very clearly.

bumblebubble23 · 29/04/2024 17:41

Thanks for replies- she has openly told anybody and everybody who will listen at work including me!

She definitely sounds like someone I would go to every effort to NOT hire.
If they don't hire her for this job then her current job ceases and they're done with her, right? Yeah they'd be stupid to hire her.

DrJonesIpresume · 29/04/2024 17:46

All you need to do is ignore it all and do your utmost in the interview. She's trying to twist the recruitment panel's arm, and that won't go down well.

When interviews are done, the bosses can do their thing and choose who they think is the best person for the job. If it isn't you and they choose her, then you will have your own opportunity to question their result, using her own threats as evidence.

BlancheSaysYes · 29/04/2024 17:48

Good luck with the interview, make sure you score the highest!

WonderingWanda · 29/04/2024 17:51

She sounds nuts....I feel pretty confident think telling you that her threats won't make any difference.

zzpleb · 29/04/2024 17:53

Well at least she's given them advance warning to be scrupulous in their recording of the interview scores.

And even if her health issues count as a disability, they only have to consider whether making reasonable adjustments would make her the best candidate.

ASighMadeOfStone · 29/04/2024 17:54

Agree with above.
You go in there, calm, efficient, and professional.
She sounds unhinged.

CormorantStrikesBack · 29/04/2024 17:58

Even if they give you the job because they know you and what you’re like (and that she’s a pita) I’m sure they will be sensible enough to ensure you score higher. Yes maybe marks can be checked but it’s still subjective as to whether to give someone 2 or 3 for a question?

i think if i were you I’d be reassured not worried, they won’t want someone like this. Do the interviewers know?

BeeCucumber · 29/04/2024 18:00

I would imagine her temporary contract will end and your employer will happily open the door for her as she leaves. Good luck with the interview.

FUBAR77 · 29/04/2024 18:04

If she’s actively avoided work in the area she’s now wanting a job in I can’t imagine she’ll do very well in the competency based questions so the scorecards will back you up in being better in interview anyway. Don’t sweat it OP

bumblebubble23 · 29/04/2024 18:12

I've never felt this nervous but your replies are reassuring me. The interviewers do know, she has discussed her issues with them multiple times.

If I was hiring, she wouldn't get the job!

I don't care if she walking in with the most polished of answers, I would gave HR find a way not to employ her. I don't respond well to blackmail.

In fact, I would probably address her recent attitude with her at interview.

She'll have done herself no favours.

SoupChicken · 29/04/2024 19:40

Well what happens where I work is they decide who they want to get the job then fill in the scorecards accordingly so she can go to HR all she likes but they will not be stupid enough not to cover their backs 🤣

bumblebubble23 · 29/04/2024 19:55

She baffles me! I've always been really nice to her all year, and she's actually said things to me this week like, looking at the job spec I know I'll get this over you - I'm just being honest. You had 2 days off with your young child so that will go against you. Then she has already mentioned she has gone to her union about the job advertised, as it was too short notice apparently (had a week to apply) she has sent numerous emails to boss/HR about this as well
