Got an in-house interview tomorrow, other candidate has threatened HR/union if she doesn't get the job

I have an internal interview tomorrow, as does another candidate from my work place. I have done all the work in this setting all year, as other candidate states she can't for various minor health reasons. Our temporary contracts are coming to an end, however one position in the setting where she won't cover has come up. We have both applied (she now says I can do that setting)but other candidate has sent various emails stating just because I've worked in there shes going to demand interview score card contact union make sure everything has been fair etc. she has sent these to the boss. Should I be worried that they will just give her the job now to stop any fuss ?

No employer willingly lands themselves with trouble. and she is it, with a capital T!

Snoopystick · 29/04/2024 20:11

Even if she scores well in the competency questions, there is always the woolly ‘team fit’ that it sounds like she’ll fall down on 🙂

Ellie1015 · 29/04/2024 20:53

She said she couldn't do that setting so was either lying/exaggerating her reasons not to do it and now she is complaining/threatening union.

I doubt she has contacted anyone but if she has it can only count against her.

If you have experience to draw upon specifically related to that setting it will help you answer questions. Good luck, hope you get it!

Our scores can be examined and we all know it. It isn't scary and we don't score differently anyway.

Just do your homework, keep calm and have a great interview!

Nomorecoconutboosts · 29/04/2024 21:04

My understanding/experience of NHS recruitment (and I assume the same for public sector jobs such as teaching) any interview documentation is stored and can be examined at a later date or even audited.
As a pp said that is not scary, in fact it is reassuring as it means the panel make sure to document very clearly in case of future queries.

She won’t be the first or last to behave in such an unprofessional and difficult manner. Every workplace has those who use the ‘threat’ of HR or the Union to managers. As long as the manager is fair, follows protocol and keeps clear records (not just of interviews but if any HR queries such as disciplinary issues) most things work out ok.

She baffles me! I've always been really nice to her all year, and she's actually said things to me this week like, looking at the job spec I know I'll get this over you - I'm just being honest. You had 2 days off with your young child so that will go against you. Then she has already mentioned she has gone to her union about the job advertised, as it was too short notice apparently (had a week to apply) she has sent numerous emails to boss/HR about this as well

If only she could have put all the effort into her application that she has into kicking up a fuss....

Ohnobackagain · 29/04/2024 22:50

@bumblebubble23 she is trying to unsettle you, which means she knows you have a great chance of getting it. Just ignore her. But maybe note down all the mean things she’s been saying to unsettle you (along with date and time) ready to keep up your sleeve if need be. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Yes, I'm starting to think that now.

Just concentrate on yourself OP. Make sure you are well prepared and have spoken to any relevant people for information or advice.

She is doing a brilliant job of shooting herself in the foot- if they do hire her, this is a sign that your potential boss has questionable judgement and this may not be such a great place to work.

Wishing you the best of luck with your interview

bumblebubble23 · 29/04/2024 23:10

Thank you- I'll update tomorrow

Good luck with the interview, your colleague sounds unhinged and your employer would be mad to give her the job. Just setting themselves up for more hassle in the future if they do.

determinedtomakethiswork · 29/04/2024 23:21

She couldn't do a better job of making sure that she doesn't get that job. Best of luck with it.

Agreed!

SheilaFentiman · 29/04/2024 23:28

Good luck!

She is probably right to say she can ask for her scorecard - as indeed can you - but I don’t think she can ask for yours.

In any event, the scorecards will reflect that you are the better person for the job, so all will be well.

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 29/04/2024 23:29

@bumblebubble23 she sounds totally doolally!!!

YeahComeOnThen · 29/04/2024 23:45

If they need frogs shell get the job!!

if they need someone sane you'll get the job.

(fake it,)

if by any chance fruit loop gets the job take the warning & RUN

RockyRogue1001 · 30/04/2024 00:00

Hope it goes well, @bumblebubble23

Codlingmoths · 30/04/2024 00:03

Good luck. I would do everything in my power to not hire her. Like any normal person would! I assume she would immediately be unable to do the job again for health reasons as soon as she got it, and everyone else probably knows that too.

Superstoria · 30/04/2024 00:12

She sounds like Trouble With A Capital T and I would 100% be making sure I didn’t hire her!

Passthepickle · 30/04/2024 00:17

Well you win either way. You get the job and it’s the way it should be. You don’t snd you know it’s not a place you could ever want to work at.

Runnerinthenight · 30/04/2024 00:20

Most managers hate people like this!

I had a union rep recently threaten me that, if she didn't receive an email inside a week advising her what action the panel was taking, she was taking it to the CEO.

It took all my resolve to remain professional, as I just wanted to say, "bring it on, does this face look like it GAF"!! And all the stupid bitch has done has been to create hostility towards her member!

MadBlack · 30/04/2024 00:24

She sounds insecure and is trying to talk herself into the position, and as a result is doing the exact opposite.
you just need to appear to the panel to be calm and confident, even if you're nervous, answer the questions in detail, and make them see your values of openness, honesty and integrity shining through.
good luck.

jumpingjacksss · 30/04/2024 00:26

Good luck

bumblebubble23 · 30/04/2024 16:08
