Really nosey here but would anyone care to share how much they make and what they do for a job? Are you comfortable on your current salary? Can you holiday each year, can you afford nice things etc? Is it strenuous and stressful hours/in general?

This is something that is really interesting to me And would love to be a little nosey here! :)

I'm an accountant (Finance Manager) and earn £55k. I work part time and this is my "retirement" job (I'm 38 😆) after years of working out of my skin in corporate.

This job is much more relaxed and gives me a nice work/life balance.

Also just found out we are expecting so will be nice to not have the stress of my former corporate years ☺️👶

blueygreyy · 15/04/2024 17:57

I'm a psychological wellbeing practitioner and earn £35k, although I'm part time so it's less than that for now while my child is young.

Cannot afford nice things but that's maybe more due to part time rather than the salary

Job is mentally draining and the targets are unreasonable so you're always left feeling like you have failed, despite working your arse off all day. So now very rewarding or sustainable

Dewdilly · 15/04/2024 17:59

I earn 33k working full time in the media in London. I’m 58.

Dacadactyl · 15/04/2024 17:59

I earn less than 15k a year, I don't work every day and I do school hours only when I'm in. I work in admin. I'm 38 and was a SAHM for a decade, only returning to the workplace aged 31. Our kids are 17 and 12.

Yes we are doing fine on this because my husband works FT and we are comfortable, although he's not a high earner.

LifeWithADHD · 15/04/2024 18:01

I’m a qualified nurse but I own and run a medical practice for various procedures. I earn 250k PA

no one in “real” life knows this as I live very modestly so it’s my best kept secret

RichardOsmansfondueset · 15/04/2024 18:09

Hi I'll share, I'm a Admin Manager in IT in a large NHS hospital up north. Top of a Band 7 so £50k full time. Started as an admin 30+ years ago and was in the right place at the right time just as computer systems started. I'm comfortable enough, there's a lot of incredibly boring pointless meetings and NHS bureaucracy is ridiculous but I'm retiring in a couple of years so happily marking time. WFH mostly and the people are lovely. I'm lucky.

70k arts

Scottishgirl85 · 15/04/2024 18:14

Pharmaceutical regulatory affairs. Part-time 4 days a week, earn around 100k. Stressful but feel lucky to earn well despite working part-time.

Scottishgirl85 · 15/04/2024 18:16

Oh and I'm 38 with DH and 3 kids :-)

Beatrixslobber · 15/04/2024 18:19

What about you @ForMauveHedgehog ? Keen to share?

Queenofwistfulthinking · 15/04/2024 18:24

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 15/04/2024 18:28

No good asking me ..I'm retired.
Well l had to stop work much earlier due to server disabilities.
Was on benefits until 16 years after the attempted murder l got my 2.7 million pay out.
When l did work l worked for a well womens centre ( Good pay..but not relevant to this thread now).

Sunnnybunny72 · 15/04/2024 18:28

I earn £18,000 as a practice nurse working 20 hours a week. Don't enjoy nursing any more and can and will 100% retire at 55 in two years after nursing since I was 18. Primary care is horrendous. I'm hanging on.
DH is a high earner and enables us to have a great standard of living and me to work pt.

RaininSummer · 15/04/2024 18:32

29500 as a civil servant. Could do with a payrise as it has been massively eroded over the past decade. Don't have holidays and my nice things are from vinted but cant complain compared to many.

Zola1 · 15/04/2024 18:33

I am 32. I earn 55k plus overtime so probably around 62k. I work in a middle manager role in a Council. It's probably the least stressful but most responsible job I've ever had...if that makes any sense at all. I'm not dealing with the crisis and I don't find myself out in the dark responding to emergencies but essentially if I fuck up I can be personally sued.

pwhglap2 · 15/04/2024 18:35

£70k civil servant, no it's not stressful, quite boring at the moment sadly, but I work flexibly and from home so fits around the kids well at the moment.

Alongside my husband's salary of £40k it's plenty, outside the SE and we have pretty low outgoings (no childcare and small commuting costs) so yes manage to go abroad 1-2 times a year, nice house, don't stress about money really.

supermamio · 15/04/2024 18:39

22k part time picking knickers for a living. Stress free and easily done, work stays at work, found hours that suit my family.

Oh wow! Amazing. So did you work corporate to build your wealth and then do the switch?

good luck on the new arrival!

£60k, London, Exec Assistant in professional services.

It’s well paid, but I think that’s partly because this is the ceiling. I have a small team as well as my own work.

For London you would expect that salary to be higher surely?! Interesting job though. I’m not sure I know of anyone close to me who works in the media!

Oh wow! That’s definitely a secret! Amazing. Do you mind me asking how you managed to do that? Did you work your way up? Or was it a case of just opening up your own? That’s fab.
