Also, a blog is a really good way of showcasing your writing skills.

I appreciate all your comments.Maybe I started my thread in a wrong way, but it was genuine and well intentioned. Thank you all!

I think I have to disagree with you, as I believe that many English people speak worse English than many of the foreigners in this country. I believe, you have just admitted how racist you are! I am as English as Michael Howard is! What do you think?

I get much better grades than most of my English classmates!!!!

Yes, obviously we are all racist. Do you really want help and advice because you don't appear to value it at all.

ivet83 · 24/03/2008 21:46

I am not begging anyone. Those who want to help will help! I didn't expect everyone to jump on me like that. Obviously it is a very competitive industry, if people like you work in it!

Ivet, stop digging now, put down the shovel, and hop on up out of the hole. We all understand that you are highly gifted, we're just a little concerned about your people skills.

PeachesMcLean · 24/03/2008 21:54

I do think some of you are being a bit harsh on ivet.

Sorry i can't help you. I don't work in publishing myself but I'm sure that even if I did, I wouldn't be arsed to proof everything i put on MN.

ivet83 · 24/03/2008 22:05

Fair enough everyone, I appreciate all your comments. I will make it anyway, because I know how good I am. I wish you all good night, I am off to watch a nice movie. And believe it or not, I am a nice person who is determined to make it in this big bad world.

I remember when I house shared abroad, all the non-english students had much better written english grammer. However, they lacked the correct "feel" for the english language and often came across harsh/rude etc. sometimes I'd proof read for them and tell them it was wrong and they would prove that it was grammatically correct but as I'd point out you would just never write something that way.

I guess that's why someone suggested you would be better looking for experience in your native language first, or try a voluntary role as I suggested.

Don't ask on a parenting forum.

Find out a locally based publishing house & go ask there.

Go in & present yourself to the person who sorts out work experience & see what they say

You may hit it lucky. Persistence is what matters in the pubishing industry (or so I'm told)

WallOfSilence · 24/03/2008 22:19

Also can I point out that no-one was being racist on this thread

TheAntiFlounce · 24/03/2008 22:23

PMSL

Oh God, come back Lavenderrr, all is forgiven!

MegBusset · 24/03/2008 22:38

There was me trying to be helpful... and apparently that makes me racist

Sorry but your attitude stinks. Can't believe I wasted my time trying to give you some good advice. Time to this thread, methinks.

TheAntiFlounce · 24/03/2008 22:49

Shut up u rasist

Judy1234 · 24/03/2008 22:58

Work experience can be quite hard to get. I've 3 children at university who are in the thick of that kind of thing. Just keep talking to people and asking around. Not sure about publishing but I know last year a survey found journalism one of the hardest jobs to enter without connections compared to so many others.

MegBusset · 24/03/2008 22:59

I managed to get into publishing without knowing people. I did have some clue about common courtesy, though, which the OP may need to work on

Carmenere · 24/03/2008 23:00

Everyone knows its racialist ffs
