If you've been offered paid role after volunteering

Just interested if this is as common as I think it is.

I volunteered in my DC's preschool which led to a paid job there.
When that finished I volunteered in a school and was offered a part time role during my 2nd session there.
A friend volunteered at a vaccine centre during Covid and ended up being paid to coordinate the clinic.
Another volunteered in a charity shop and ended up the manager.

wow, I cannot even get a volunteer role in my area, I have no references, never mind get a paid job🙄

Interesting thread - I'm applying for voluntary work to gain some experience in the field I want to go into. If it were to open doors for employment opportunities, all the better!

Yes it does happen but not quickly. I did four years before a paid job came up and I volunteered four days a week

MassiveIrritant sorry to hear that. I wonder if it depends on where one lives and the area of volunteering? I hope something crops up for you soon
